Services

With a “deep fascination for art of all types,” Scott Andrew loves capturing beauty, soft light, and displays of true love and emotion in his photography. His brides tell us he’s incredibly creative with a quirky sense of style, and really knows how to tell a story through his images—capturing not only the significant moments, but the tiny details as well. One look at his work and you’ll notice how ethereal and artistic it is. He credits this to his use of film, which enhances the gorgeous color and detail in his work. But besides his impressive portfolio, we hear he’s just about the nicest, most personable and down-to-earth person to have around on your wedding day.

Collections begin at $5000. Scott Andrew Studio takes a limited number of wedding commissions per year. Please call, email or submit a contact form to check for available dates.

Questions and Answers

What 3 words describe your work? Romantic, clean, ethereal.

Why should someone hire you? I believe in love and I find great joy in telling the story of love through my photos. My goal is for the couples I photograph to feel at ease and natural in front of my camera. It is my hope that the photos reflect the natural beauty and light in people.

What are the common misconceptions about your services? A lot of people are thrown off when I mention to them that I shoot film for the majority of my weddings. They think that it is antiquated or out of style. To the contrary, in the world of fine art and editorial, film photography evokes such beauty and rendition that it is highly sought after. It is charming when people see the difference.

What drew you to this field/how did you get started? I learned how to use a camera and develop/print in the darkroom in high school. The love just grew from then on and I eventually got "suckered in" to photograph my first wedding. There was somewhat of a snowball effect from then on.

What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work? I'm inspired by my clients—their love, their interests, their quirks and the things that make them unique. In photography, I would say my work is influenced by some of the great portrait photographers like Peter Lindbergh, Richard Avedon, Bruce Weber and by the timeless photojournalists such as Elliot Erwitt, Cartier-Bresson and Penn.

Tell us about a favorite, unusual or most interesting moment at a wedding: One of my favorite moments at any wedding is the father-daughter dance. Having a little girl myself, I'm always fighting back a tear (or keeping the camera over my eyes to hide) and think that this is truly one of the most beautiful moments of every wedding.

What makes a wedding memorable for you? The love. I always feel like my work is stronger when the love is tangible. I love seeing families that are close, couples that are artistic, sophisticated yet relaxed, beautiful details and of course, great dancing.

What have weddings taught you? I've become a better husband, father and family member from being at so many various weddings. The coupling of different cultures, the simple beauty and power of words, the camaraderie of a team of wedding professionals pulling together to make someone's dream come true...these are a few of the things that have taught me volumes throughout the years.

What is the best advice you give to a couple when planning their wedding? Be yourself, emphasize love and hire a team of wedding professionals that will help you embrace that throughout the planning process.

If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be? To be able to make the sun stop right around sunset for pretty much the whole wedding day. Can you imagine how gorgeous the photographs would be?

What are 3 words that describe your personality? Easy-going. Loving. Industrious.

What's your favorite book/movie/work of art? The Endless Summer.

What is your favorite quote? "Never, never, never give up." —Winston Churchill

What's your favorite marriage advice? If you ever find yourself upset with one another, hold hands.

If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead? Professional surfer.

What's your favorite way to wind down after a hard day? Enjoy a home-cooked meal and play with my kids outdoors.

Tell us about your pets, if you have any. Badgley is our tough little Yorkie-poo who weighs in at a whopping 4 lbs.

What are some of your favorite places to eat—either everyday spots or special occasion splurges? Limon in the Mission is a fabulous Peruvian spot, Fremont Diner in Sonoma, Mamacita's in Cow Hollow and several faves in Manhattan such as the Red Cat, DBGB and Freeman's.
