There is a simple joy, a certain sweetness in their work. Anyone who has hired Rose and Gerard Lion raves about their photography. With their European roots and background in photojournalism, Rose and Gerard bring a very natural, yet chic sensibility to their stories. For over ten years, they’ve personally attended to their clients’ needs, from the initial consultation and pre-planning stage to the design of the album.

Rose and Gerard believe any couple deserves quality photography at an affordable price. For that reason, every package is customized to fit almost any client’s budget and style—be it a small commitment ceremony or an elaborate wedding celebration.

For the final presentation, the studio offers an elegant Editorial Wedding Book or an in-house designed wedding album. Modern or classic, all albums and books are handcrafted and chosen for their superior quality and sustainability. Other services include a unique custom guest book with engagement/lifestyle photos and a photo booth style self-portrait station.

Certified By The Guide Reviews

(What does this mean?)
These Reviews are from real brides who have used this vendor's services—pulled straight from their Certified by The Guide reference check. We only post reviews that we have collected, so we can feel confident that they are the real deal. Yes, we know. We're control freaks.

“Of course we adore the images of ourselves, but the way Rosemarie captured our friends and family—it’s like she knew them as well as we do.”

“I loved her and the photos were amazing. All of my guests raved about her and kept saying that we’d have the greatest photos because she was everywhere.  And they were right! We are really shy and Rosemarie worked to make us feel comfortable and perfect.”

“Rosemarie really cared about how we wanted to remember our day and about what our personalities were. We have at least one shot of every single guest at the wedding and for us that was special.  She also captured our spirit in her photojournalistic style—we don’t have a single picture where we look ‘posed’ with a strained smile.  Our joy is sincere and evident in every shot.”

“We had a small destination wedding in Sonoma. We were nervous selecting and working with vendors from so far away but she made us comfortable and the photos were so natural; she really captured the moments, expressions, and feelings.”

“My wife and I found her photographs to be warm, lively, and expressive. She was not only professional, but also easy-going and humorous.”

“As we met with photographers, Rosemarie and her portfolio stood out in her philosophy (she likes to ‘tell a story’), her strong film technical skills (including unusual mediums like the Holga), her energy/excitement to know about us and our visions and her price point. Rosemarie was dedicated to perfection…she delivered us an amazing wedding album that we absolutely LOVE and look at often and can’t wait to show off to our friends and family.”

Questions and Answers

What 3 words describe your work? Warm, natural, joyful.

Why should someone hire you? As a multicultural married couple with over ten years experience in wedding photography, we know how important it is to listen and be flexible. We are dedicated to quality and personalized attention, using our expertise and sensibilities to capture your authentic story. Our photography is a celebration of the human spirit.

What drew you to this field/how did you get started? I have a wide range of interests, especially in people and culture, and started off as a photojournalist. Combined with my strong visual and storytelling skills, wedding photojournalism was a natural progression.

What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work? Life, art, nature—I can find inspiration everywhere. For me it is a state of mind. Growing up in Europe, art and culture are everywhere and so intermixed with daily life. In Salzburg or Paris, where we lived, you breathe the arts. In the US, the vastness of nature has been awe-inspiring.

What makes a wedding memorable for you? Personality, diversity, authenticity.

What advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding? Find the right wedding professionals you can rely on. It will save you needless worry.

What's your favorite book/movie/work of art? Still love "Jules et Jim" by Francois Truffaut, though I haven't watched it in ages. More recently I have been inspired by the divine creations of Andy Goldsworthy—combining nature, time and processes to create temporary sculptures. Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele also come to mind, as well as the little creatures that leave behind interesting patterns inside the bark of trees or on leaves.

What is your favorite quote? "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

Extracurricular activities: Cooking with my family, yoga, hiking, tinkering about in my garden, reading, learning something new, different languages and cultures.

Tell us about your pets, if you have any. We finally got a kitten, Fritzy, for our son. I love how smart, playful yet sensitive he can be! He is currently being trained to become a ninja cat.

What are some of your favorite places to eat—either everyday spots or special occasion splurges? If you come to Petaluma, you must try Della Fattoria, Water Street Bistro or Central Market for world-class food in a more casual setting.
