Questions and Answers

What 3 words best describe your work?

Photojournalistic, emotional, authentic.

What drew you to this field/how did you get started?

I used to be an editor at a teen magazine called Tiger Beat in New York City. They sent me to Florida to interview Justin Timberlake with his boy band 'N Sync. I took black and white photojournalistic pictures of them hanging out and when I got the photos back, I was officially hooked on photography.

Tell us about a favorite, unusual or very interesting moment at a wedding:

Early in my wedding photography career, I used to love the song "Hava Nagila," which is used for a celebratory circle dance at Jewish weddings. I had the song as my ringtone and one day my cell phone rang in the middle of a very quiet church ceremony. I was mortified! For the rest of the day, all the groomsmen called me "Hava Nagila!" Now I always make sure my phone is on silent during ceremonies! :)

What makes a wedding memorable for you?

The best weddings, for me, are not about the decorations or the dresses or even the venue—they are about the love that I can feel between the couple and among their families. I am so inspired by love. It pushes me to do an amazing job and capture the moments that will make the wedding come alive years later.

What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding?

The best advice I can give is to put as much effort and time as you can into getting all the details right before the wedding, but as soon as the day arrives, let it all go and remember what your day is really about: a beautiful celebration of your love and union. This letting go will allow you to be truly present in the moment you are living, to soak it all in, and live your wedding experience with fierce joy and pleasure!

What are 3 words that describe your personality?

Easygoing, funny, focused.

I love to hike and explore the absolutely breathtaking beauty of Northern California. I love to take photographs of nature and I love spending time with my daughter. Also, I love ice cream—I consider eating ice cream an extracurricular activity in and of itself!
