Elegant. Stylish. Glamorous. Sparkling. Unprecedented. These are just a few of the ways people describe events planned by Julie Nunn, founder of I DO! Wedding & Event Design. As the second oldest of five children, Julie spent her younger years playing dress up, plotting elaborate slumber parties, and helping her mother and grandmother host sophisticated dinner soirées. “My family is very talented and creative,” says the Los Angeles native. “I planned my sister’s wedding and am proud to have earned her trust.”
She’s also earned the trust of all of her clients, her own highly trained team, and the much-admired network of topnotch professionals that she draws from when the occasion arises. “She circles each event with great vendors and an amazing staff,” says an industry colleague. “You can tell she keeps her finger on the pulse of it all, “says another. “So the clients are happy and the vendors know just what to expect.”
What they’ve all come to expect is nothing short of perfection. Thanks to her background in fine art and interior design, Julie has a penchant for romantic flower arrangements, letterpress save-the-date announcements, and dramatic table settings—all of which have brought her recognition from television networks and numerous publications. Capable, creative, vivacious, dynamic and a brilliant planner, she is known for her organizational acumen, the keenly detailed “blue sheet” she uses to keep projects running like well-oiled machines and a gift for pleasing clients and their guests. “Grace under fire,” is the way a photographer who knows her well describes this delightful visionary. “She’s a total perfectionist,” says a client. “Her taste is flawless. I wouldn’t dream of throwing a party without her.”
“Every wedding and event is a new story,” says Julie. “I love coming up with inventive ideas and making each occasion a reflection of the host.” Whether it’s an outstanding personal celebration, a fabulous fundraiser or a glamorous gala, Julie manages to bring vitality to every affair, to make each participant feel special and to chart a sure course to success. Moving, sumptuous and delicious—events planned and executed by Julie and her staff are reputed to be a feast for the senses. “I want to create a beautiful backdrop for my clients’ amazing once-in-a-lifetime events,” says the popular planner and, by all accounts, that’s just what she does.
She’s known for embellishments that consistently dazzle—like the fireworks and fire dancers that lit up a destination wedding she orchestrated in El Careyes, Mexico. From intimate gatherings, birthdays and showers, to destination events and weddings evocative of old Hollywood glamour (with thousands of exotic orchids and roses, hand-rolled cigars, and apple blossom trees laced with white lights), she makes each affair unforgettable. “The best way to describe my feelings about Julie is to say that if I was getting married, or had a major event, I would hire her in a heartbeat,” says a completely charmed colleague.
“I love to shower my clients with extras,” confides Julie. “But I can’t tell you what they are,” she adds. “I want them to be a surprise.”
