Questions and Answers
What 3 words describe your work? Warm, ethereal, airy.
Tell us about your company name. Ha ha, well, it's no secret it's my name! Unique enough to remember but too many consonants to say!
Why should someone hire you? I believe in personal attention, vibrant sentiments and no fuss productions. A bit of fun, uniquely calm and I know had to get things achieved with efficiency.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started? It was an accident that turned into love at first sight! I was working in the food packaging photography industry and was asked to assist a local wedding photographer last minute. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd photograph a wedding! After that weekend, I left the food packaging industry and went full force into wedding photography! It has the best of both worlds: humanity, organic forms and expressions tied in with thoughtful details.
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work? Textures and light. I'm a romantic at heart so the emotional quality of a wedding day comes naturally. It's light, movement, actions and everyday textures that inspire me mostly. Nature, architecture, colors, interiors—my brain never shuts off! Of course, I'm a huge fan of film photographers as I once was one myself.
Tell us about a favorite, unusual or most interesting moment at a wedding: The little surprises. Whether it's the groom who handmade a date sign for the first look spot, a bride busting out champagne and banners for a pop-up reception or an unexpected tear during the father's toasts, it's all about the small things.
What have weddings taught you? Patience ten times over! I'm a patient person naturally but it's funny how much more patient you can learn to be! Also, as a vendor the energy you put off can equally set the tone of the day. Positive, positive!
What is the best advice you give to a couple when planning their wedding? Organization is everything. No really, everything! If you prep and organize things well in advance, you can do a little every day/every month and actually enjoy the planning process. If you wait until the last minute you only get stress, frustration and more letdowns.
If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be? Hmmm, great question! Maybe mind reading. Sometimes emotions, needs and wants are hard to communicate—especially when nerves take over. This way, I can read your mind!
If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead? A professional crafter. Ha ha! I'd love to style/craft the behind-the-scenes of Martha Stewart Magazine, Donna Hay or Real Simple. Oh and I've always thought doing voice-overs would be an awesome job!
What's your favorite way to wind down after a hard day? A yummy treat whether it's dessert, a savory snack or a glass of pinot noir. A foot rub is always nice too :)
What are some of your favorite places to eat—either everyday spots or special occasion splurges? I love food and wine! I can roll with a spicy vegetarian burrito one day and chow down on a rustic homemade pierogi the next! I have a weakness for dips. I enjoy Suppenkuche for ambience and comfort food and Citrus Club for a hot noodle dish!
