Questions and Answers
What 3 words best describe your work? Personal. Thoughtful. Unique.
Tell us about your company. A Savvy Event is an event planning and design company located in Wine Country. I started A Savvy Event in 2007 because I have always had a love for all things beautiful, fun, unique, creative and detailed. We do all types of events in and around the Bay Area. On the weekends and even weekdays we are planning and designing weddings, birthday parties, showers, anniversaries and just about every milestone event you can think of! Life should be celebrated and that is what we do!
Why should someone hire you? Choosing vendors is one of the most important decisions to make during the wedding planning process. This is the team of people that are going to create your vision for the day and it makes sense to choose people that you like and that you enjoy working with. We love what we do and we have built incredible relationships with other professionals in the industry. We hope that when you hire A Savvy Event, you know that you are in good hands and trust that we are capable of listening to your ideas, understanding your vision and creating a unique event that reflects who you are as a couple.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started? Having spent many years working for both The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, I knew I loved working with people and in a fast-paced environment. I also studied interior design and have always had an eye for detail and a passion for beautiful things. I was offered a position at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn to work in their wedding department and it was a perfect match! I started my own event planning company 4 years later and I couldn't be happier. I have always loved throwing impeccable parties and I feel so lucky to be able to do this for a living!
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work? I am constantly inspired in the work that I do. Not every couple is the same and so each wedding we do is invariably different. I love a challenge and my goal is to create each event with my client's unique style and personality in mind. After meeting with new clients I usually have a good feeling about who they are and my mind starts racing with possibilities of how to bring their event to life. I guess I would say that my clients inspire me and help make me a better designer.
Tell us about a favorite, unusual or very interesting moment at a wedding: A wedding day is filled with special moments and I still get teary-eyed on occasion. I love listening to the vows, especially the personal ones. I also enjoy hearing the speeches. You get to know your clients fairly well over the course of the planning process and it's always fun to hear surprising little stories about them as told by their friends and family. I also am a huge fan of the Hora at Jewish weddings...I love feeling the energy and excitement in the room.
What have weddings taught you? Patience, respect and compassion.
What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding? Remember what is important. It's easy to get wrapped up in all the little details, but it is important to maintain your footing and remember why it is you are doing all of this in the first place. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that you are marrying the right person and that your family and friends are there supporting you.
If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be? I always say I wish I could clone myself! Sometimes there is just so much I want to do in a day and I need an extra 2 or 3 people!
What are 3 words that describe your personality? Genuine. Detail-oriented. Enthusiastic.
What's your favorite marriage advice? Love your partner how they need to be loved...not how you think they should be loved.
If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead? I would love to design children's clothes! I have two little girls and I spend way too much time online shopping for cute outfits.
What's your favorite way to wind down after a hard day? My best days are when I can come home and have a nice dinner with my husband and girls...They are why I do everything I do.
