Redondo Beach Wedding Venue
231 Yacht Club Way
Redondo Beach, California 90277
This is a true story: The Chart House of Redondo Beach can trace its origins to a 1960s surf-safari. That’s right—legendary longboarders Buzzy Bent and Joey Cabell surfed their way down the West Coast on an enviable twofold mission: to find the best surf in California and a stellar restaurant location. When the duo reached the Redondo Beach breakwaters, they knew they’d hit pay dirt—they had not only discovered a surfing paradise, but also a building with unsurpassed ocean views and beach access.
After an extensive remodel by the noted architect Kendrick Bangs Kellog, the Chart House opened in 1969 and has enjoyed renown as both an exceptional restaurant and event venue for over three decades.
Built on sturdy piers, the Chart House is a contemporary, low-profile, cream stucco building with a red-tile hipped roof. Huge beams and pillars define the restaurant’s newly renovated, smartly dressed interior, while a ribbon of tinted windows around the perimeter heightens the sense of space and provides guests with a breathtaking seascape. Diners enjoy a rare 180-degree view of the Pacific Ocean from anywhere in the house. During winter’s high tides, a window seat is a giddy ride, as the surf thunders and splashes against the glass. On chillier days, a fireplace in the restaurant’s lounge area adds warmth and comfort.
If you’re having a large event, reserve the entire restaurant so guests can mingle freely and enjoy the facility’s amenities: an upscale circular bar with snazzy lighting fixtures, new furnishings with royal blue accents, and a wall hung with sepias of lifeguards, red cars and images of Redondo Beach in a more innocent era. We particularly liked the hand-blown glass art by Dale Chihuly, situated near the entry.
Smaller-scale parties can raise their glasses for a toast in the Sunset Room, a private space offering an expansive view of the north coast. This room can be completely separated from the rest of the dining area by simply closing its glass doors.
The Chart House is one of the only places in the South Bay where you can get married on the beach, and weddings here are conducted with ease. As you might imagine, sunset is often the preferred hour for ceremonies, with couples exchanging vows barefoot, right on the sand. It’s a glorious tableau, with the sun’s last shimmering light preserving the moment in a golden glow.
CEREMONY CAPACITY: Indoors, overlooking the ocean, up to 100 guests seated; outdoors, the beach holds up to 250 seated guests.
EVENT/RECEPTION & MEETING CAPACITY: Daytime receptions up to 225 seated. The Sunset Room holds 50 seated (food and beverage minimum is required for exclusive use of the room). The Harbor Room can accommodate up to 75 guests.
For weddings, a $1,500 nonrefundable deposit is required to book the site. Several wedding packages include event coordination, custom wedding cake, cake cutting and parking for your guests. Wedding entrées run $35–70/person for plated meals, $43–59/person for buffet; alcohol, tax and gratuity are additional.
