Imagine a cobblestone piazza dotted with marble tables. Sparrows flit in and out of ficus trees, and terracotta planters ring an elegant, three-tiered fountain set in a turquoise-tiled pool. You’re sipping wine with your beloved and a summery breeze carries the smell of roasting herbs and garlic. Paris you ask? Perugia? Rome? No, far from it…you’re in Costa Mesa at the Ayres Hotel & Suites, a modern hotel with a decidedly old-world sensibility that Zagat’s Survey rated as “the best bargain hotel in California.”

Despite its size (the hotel has 284 rooms), the Ayres Hotel & Suites retains a homespun, friendly atmosphere. Your guests will immediately feel at ease as they walk through the hotel’s lobby to the wedding site, pausing to admire antiques from around the world—Ching Dynasty elephant sculptures, rare model ships and life-size cloisonné lambs.

The Garden Courtyard, with its cultured and international ambiance, is the hotel’s most popular ceremony site. Couples usually say their vows in front of the fountain, positioning the bridesmaids and groomsmen on either side along its steps. Come evening, the incandescent street lamps and the glittering necklace of fountain lights add a touch of magic to the courtyard. From the wedding site it’s just a short walk to the reception and pool area on the lower level of the main hotel. You can host your reception in one of four rooms, each decorated with warm wood wainscoting, oil paintings, and custom wall treatments. All banquet rooms open onto a large, inviting pool patio. The Living Room can accommodate a buffet or a small sit-down dinner, while the Camberley, Essex or Breton Rooms are more spacious areas—big enough for a crowd and a dance floor. Tables can also be set up around the pool.

When the day’s celebration is over, the bride and groom have the luxury of retiring to their hotel suite, compliments of the Hotel. Awaiting them will be a bottle of chilled champagne, just one of the many fine and caring touches you are sure to encounter when you hold your event at the Ayres Hotel & Suites.

CEREMONY CAPACITY: Outdoors, the Garden Courtyard holds up to 200 guests.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: Indoor spaces accommodate up to 120 seated or 75–160 standing. The Camberley Room holds up to 120 seated, and up to 220 can be seated poolside.

MEETING CAPACITY: The total indoor meeting space is 11,000 square feet, which can accommodate 10–150 seated guests.

Fees & Deposits

For weddings, a nonrefundable deposit is required to confirm your date. The estimated total is payable 3 months in advance. A guest count guarantee is due 72 hours prior; any remaining charges are to be paid at the conclusion of the event. There are two wedding packages, for lunch or dinner which include the following: a 3-course meal, hors d’oeuvres, wedding cake, champagne toast, dance floor, banquet room or event space, and a complimentary wedding suite for the bride and groom. Tax and service charge are additional. Wedding packages start at $40/person. Any menu package can be customized. For ceremonies only the setup fee is $1,000, with a reception the fee is $500. Receptions occur in 4-hour time blocks, receptions with ceremonies in 5-hour blocks. Shuttle service and special rates for overnight wedding guests are available.
