Why We Like This Place

Set in the lovely Mission Gardens just steps from the historic Mission Santa Clara Church, the Adobe Lodge is the oldest structure on the Santa Clara University Campus and one of the area’s most beloved event venues. Originally built in 1822, the building has been completely updated with modern amenities, but it still retains the flavor and charm of its Mission-era architecture.

The garden itself is an enviable spot for an al fresco or tented reception. Its focal point is an amazing wisteria-laden pergola, entwined with vines dating back 150 years. In spring, the pergola becomes an enchanting pathway (and an irresistible backdrop for photos), covered in a breathtaking cloud of lavender blossoms. The surrounding landscaping is delightful as well, from the palms dotting the lawns to the beds of multihued roses and seasonal flowers.

At the end of the pergola is the Adobe Lodge, whose Spanish-tiled fountain and wraparound vine-covered porch evoke the gracious quality of a bygone time. Several indoor and outdoor spaces can be used individually or in combination, and all look equally fabulous when decorated casually or dressed to the nines.

If the weather is fine, consider serving cocktails or having your reception on the patio, an intimate tiled courtyard bordered by Chinese Elms, greenery and flowers. Prefer an indoor affair? The main dining room and its adjoining porch connect to each other through tall windows and doors, and there’s a nice flow between them. The porch is custom-made for a rehearsal dinner, buffet setup, or drinks and hors d’oeuvres, while the light and airy dining room is ideal for a seated reception. It also works well for dancing, as it’s outfitted with a permanent raised dais that holds your band or DJ.

Couples who want to get married here, too, can exchange vows in the Mission Santa Clara Church. The exquisite interior—featuring walls lined with graceful arches, hand-painted designs on every surface, and stunning chandeliers suspended from the 25-foot-high ceiling—will imbue your ceremony with beauty and awe.

An on-site event planner is happy to help with ideas and recommend vendors, and if you don’t have your own wedding coordinator she’ll provide day-of coordination. At the Adobe Lodge, you’re encouraged to be creative, and use any or all of the event areas in the way that suits you best. Whether you host a picnic with gingham tablecloths or a black-tie gala with elegant linens and crystal, you’ll feel that you’ve chosen exactly the right place.

CEREMONY CAPACITY: Ceremonies do not take place at this venue. Mission Santa Clara is nearby and hosts ceremonies. Call for details.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: The Main Dining Room holds 100–125 seated guests or 200 standing; the adjacent Porch seats 24; the Patio holds 40 seated or 90 standing. The Mission’s Gardens can accommodate 150–600 seated guests during warmer months. Tented events can be arranged.

MEETING CAPACITY: The Main Dining Room accommodates 80 seated theater-style; two Private Dining Rooms seat up to 12 guests each.

Fees & Deposits

For wedding receptions, a nonrefundable $1,800 rental fee, which includes use of the facility for 4 hours, is required at the time of booking. A final guest count is due 10 days prior to the wedding. Food services are provided. Special wedding menus for served or buffet-style meals, including passed hors d’oeuvres, range $68–89/person. Customized menus are also available. Alcohol, tax and an 18% service charge are additional. The food and beverage balance is payable 10 days prior to the event. Extra hours may be arranged at $450/hour.

For other special events and business functions, the rental fee ranges $50–500 depending on room(s) selected. Fees are based on a 3-hour rental period; additional time can be arranged for an extra fee. Prices for breakfast meetings and luncheons vary depending on services requested.
