Yamashiro

Description

Yamashiro means "Mountain Palace" in Japanese, and the name couldn’t be more fitting. Perched high in the Hollywood hills, with a view that encompasses all of downtown to the Pacific Ocean, this is an authentic replica of a magnificent temple on the outskirts of Kyoto.

The Yamashiro experience actually begins in front of the restaurant, with a visit to the 600-year-old pagoda standing guard over all of it. Next, you walk up the front stairs through a pair of massive, hand-carved doors into a small lobby that overlooks one of Yamashiro’s most appealing features: an open-air Japanese garden in the center of the restaurant, completely enclosed by the four wings of the building. This verdant courtyard, filled with bonsai trees (including the oldest dwarfed black pines in the nation), flowering shrubs, a soothing waterfall and limpid stone pools alive with Koi fish, is a natural site for ceremonies as well as receptions for smaller groups. You can dine on the tiled veranda which borders the garden on all sides and-thanks to heating and a canopy that covers the area during cooler months-the courtyard is available year-round. Two rooms at one end are often used in combination for an event. The delicately-painted Koi Room is attached to the Garden Court and can hold a small reception or be used to accommodate the cake, gift table or musicians. The spectacular Skyview Room with its own bar and majestic vistas of Hollywood , is a prime spot for cocktail parties, dining and dancing, as well as business meetings and seminars

Another banquet option is the Sunset Room, located in the left wing of the restaurant. Separated from the main dining area by shoji screens the tiered Sunset Room has beautiful city views from each seat. Likewise, the main dining room and the cocktail lounge, available only with a buy-out of the entire restaurant, are tiered so that no one can miss the spectacular view.

After nearly a century, Yamashiro continues to be an east-meets-west palace, where the serenity of ancient Japan and the glitter of current-day L.A. come together to create some intriguing and romantic possibilities.
