Why We Like This Place
You could search the seven seas for a place for your next big bash, but it’s unlikely you’d find many as terrific as this one. Even if the world were your oyster, the artfully remodeled Waterfront Hotel with its striking marina and bay views would surely be at the top of your list.
Situated on the boardwalk in Oakland’s historic Jack London Square, a lively waterfront neighborhood bustling with world-class diversions and attractions, it features thousands of square feet of meeting space, five floors of dynamic, playfully appointed guestrooms, a gorgeous restaurant and a super friendly and experienced staff. There’s nothing stuffy about this venue. The easy and adventuresome spirit of the place is apparent as soon as you walk under the dramatically draped porte-cochère. Mosaic columns sparkle with the colors of sun, sand and sea, introducing the property’s happy-go-lucky vibe. In the main entrance an Italian ceramic-tile floor with the look and feel of wood will make you think you’ve just stepped onto the deck of a gigantic luxury yacht. Large porthole windows, a high, prow-like ceiling and canvas-look accents add to the nautical theme. It’s fun to pick out the clever details: the custom-made chandelier with a fringe of tiny shells, the credenza with a stacked-suitcase pedestal, the wallpaper with a subtle scallop and wave pattern…
Marine colors are repeated in the residential style lobby with its big fireplace and comfortable tables and chairs. From here double doors open onto the Compass Room, Chart Room and Pool. Of course, all three areas can be used as the occasion demands. Have your ceremony poolside with the pretty sailboats that ply the Oakland estuary as a backdrop and your party indoors, or switch it up and use the indoor spaces to tie the knot and move the other festivities outside. For larger ceremonies and gatherings you might want to book the spacious Spinnaker Ballroom, also on this floor, or the Regatta Room, adjacent to the hotel. The Spinnaker Ballroom has sweeping waterfront views and can be partitioned to create two smaller rooms. The large Regatta Room can be divided up into two separate chambers. Not quite enough options? Also on the premises is the utterly marvelous Miss Pearl’s Jam House, the latest incarnation of three-time James Beard Foundation award winner Joey Altman’s much loved eatery. Here, a series of outdoor patios, private and public rooms indoors, and a sumptuous bar and lounge provide another 8,000 square feet of party possibilities. The imaginatively decorated rooms have the faded glamour of an elegant, antique, island mansion—glittering abalone shells, pearls and all. The exciting food is new-world-awesome and will make you feel as if you and your guests are stowaways in paradise. Tempting? Don’t leave. There’s a penthouse on the top floor of the hotel with the charm—and the views—of a captivating beachfront hideaway. Hang out here for days…weeks. Time flies when you’re having this kind of fun.
