Why We Like This Place
Cabernet grapes hang heavy on rows of vines disappearing towards the eastern mountains, and a long view of Sonoma Valley stretches before you. This is only one of the lovely scenes you see as you survey Vineyard Ranch’s idyllic surroundings and consider all the possibilities.
The 140-year-old ranch is spread out over 70 acres, with horses roaming the property amidst olive trees, vineyards and organic gardens. Numerous areas on the estate lend themselves to events, especially the restored Craftsman-style farmhouse and contemporary barn. Included with this stunning setting are the services of one of the Bay Area’s most elite planners, Julie Atwood Events (JAE). Their team provides complete wedding planning from start to finish, as well as site tours of other exclusive properties for rehearsal parties, brunches, and other events.
By handling the coordination, design and staging for all events at this private estate, JAE ensures that every wedding has a genuine “at home” feeling. To help you realize your vision, they’ll connect you with a select cadre of Wine Country resources, including chefs, florists, musicians, and lighting designers. They’ll also assist you in choosing a caterer from their preferred list who will create a menu just for you, using only the freshest and best regional foods, highlighted by seasonal vegetables, herbs and olive oil from the ranch’s own garden. Your feast will be paired with wines that you have chosen from over 300 fabulous Sonoma County wineries.
Couples being married here usually exchange vows in a meadow or on an expansive lawn, with vineyards and the Sonoma Mountains as a backdrop. From their ceremony site, a path spilling over with roses and lavender guides them to the oak-shaded, flagstone patio where the festivities begin.
Cocktails are served on the patio in the dappled shade of an oak canopy. Dinner and dancing follow in any of several areas—a meadow, a tent, a pavilion or the barn—depending on the size of your group. Evening receptions look spectacular with colored lanterns strung overhead and candles flickering on tables. After dinner, the barn becomes the uber-Wine Country lounge. It can completely change its look to suit your event: Considering an Old California atmosphere? Bring in handmade textiles and a Latin orchestra. Rich metallics and a state-of-the-art DJ turn the space into an edgy SOMA loft. Or, to create a classic, romantic backdrop for a swinging Big Band, just add chandeliers, crystal and silk.
And so…newlyweds, friends, family and barn swallows party into the night. Barn swallows? You bet! Bluebirds, owls and other creatures of nature are what keep the ranch fly- and chemical-free. This is an estate that supports sustainable agriculture, and all the vendors who work here share the same philosophy.
In addition to weddings, the ranch specializes in out-of-the-box corporate events, ranging from winemaker dinners and fly-fishing seminars to horse-drawn wagon rides to the vineyard for al fresco cocktails. Whatever your celebration at Vineyard Ranch, you can be assured of several things: You’ll see beauty everywhere you look; you’re going to enjoy yourself immensely; and every detail will be handled for you.
