Why We Like This Place
Note: Via Las Colinas is just one of over 4,000 unique locations represented by Gianna & Company.In the 1920s, audiences thrilled to the silver screen’s images of beautiful people living fabulous lives inside even more fabulous homes. It was a wonderful world of make-believe that few could ever hope to experience. Yet, visiting Via Las Colinas brings those celluloid images to life, like stepping through a portal to old Hollywood glamour.
This amazing gated estate, located in the Hollywood foothills at the top of a cul-de-sac, is less than a mile from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood Boulevard, but it’s truly a world unto itself. Built in 1922 by Charles Toberman, who designed Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, this two-story Spanish Revival mansion is the epitome of elegance. In fact, the house is so special that it was featured in the very first issue of Architectural Digest (with a young Betty Davis posed at the door) and chosen as the hip “trophy” house of fictional superstar Vincent Chase on HBO’s first two seasons of “Entourage.”
A pair of massive and heavily scrolled iron gates open to reveal the private enclave with its manicured grounds, large circular drive and stately residence. On the right side of this multilevel property is the Upper Garden, a peaceful grassy area adorned with Italian cypress trees, a decorative vine-covered gate and plants cascading from a tiered fountain—the perfect setting for your ceremony. An adjacent arbor-shaded guesthouse, complete with kitchen and porch, serves as the bride’s luxurious suite and pre-wedding bridesmaid retreat. Cocktails can be served in the Upper Garden or down a few steps in the formal Rose Garden. From here, your guests are ushered to the tented tennis court, which has been transformed into a premier reception site. (This is exactly how the current owners chose to celebrate their own nuptials!)
Another dramatic option for cocktails is the Front Terrace of the mansion itself. You and your guests pass the two enormous stone lions that guard the exterior stairs and gather on the curved patio that presides over the sweeping main lawn. The wide-angle views of the city from this lofty perch are spectacular! And since Via Las Colinas is one of the rare private properties to allow celebrations inside the house, you absolutely must take a look at a trio of intimate sites on the main floor. As you enter the filigreed wrought-iron door, you’ll see a graceful spiral staircase, an ideal backdrop for photos. To your left, there’s the Living Room with its art deco, cast cement fireplace…and the adjoining Billiard Room with bar, pool table and large picture window framing that fantastic city view. These rooms enjoy their own private back patio with a recessed mosaic fountain and inviting outdoor fireplace.
This lovely venue is chock full of memorable photo sites, like the charming lawn with a small pond and footbridge beside the main house or the one-of-a-kind indoor pool house decorated with etched-glass doors and a huge chandelier suspended above the water. If it looks vaguely familiar, it’s where the movie Cocoon was shot. Clearly, Via Las Colinas reigns as a favorite location for making Hollywood’s fantasies come to life. Fees & Deposits
50% of the rental fee is required to reserve your date. The balance is due 30 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $10,000–$50,000 depending on your event’s requirements.
Availability
Year-round, daily, 8:30am–midnight. Amplified music must be turned off at 10pm, acoustic music may continue until midnight.
