Why We Like This Place

A visit to Redondo Beach reminds you of why you love California. Plenty of sunshine, balmy ocean breezes, and a casual sense of style that says elegance is a state of mind. At Redondo’s King Harbor, swaying palm trees and sailboat masts lead the way to The Portofino’s lush private peninsula, where everything you need for a memorable special event is at your disposal.

The hotel itself has the unassuming intimacy of a boutique hotel, and the attentive staff make you feel like you’re the Lord and Lady of the Manor. The inviting lobby is dubbed "the Living Room," but few folks we know boast a three-story atrium in their home—or that astounding view! Lofty paned windows overlook the lagoon, where kayaks and yachts regularly make their way out to sea. There’s no sign of land, only rippling sapphire-blue water, so you feel as if you’re floating on some elaborate houseboat. It’s a remarkably soothing vision, and between the soft jazz playing on the sound system and the cocktail you’re served from the bar tucked discreetly in one corner, you might want to lounge in the comfortable Living Room chairs indefinitely.

But there’s a celebration afoot, beginning with a poolside ceremony. It’s surprising how many guests this petite enclave can accommodate, but up to 200 of your friends and family can enjoy the ceremony, conducted on a raised deck under an archway or gazebo with the water as the backdrop. You can have the staff float a floral centerpiece in the pool, but the tropical garden atmosphere with ivy-covered lattice and the refreshing scent of sea spray provide natural adornments.

A short stroll from the hotel proper takes you to the Pavilion, a crisp contemporary building with two distinctive ballrooms for receptions. The sophisticated Bayside Ballroom has a 180-degree view of the ocean, and at night the twinkling stars and the lights of the Palos Verdes Peninsula cast a dreamy shimmer on the water. Next door, the Pacific Ballroom features floor-to-ceiling windows that take in the action of the lagoon and the cityscape beyond. Step out to the Pacific Terrace for cocktails or a whiff of sea air, and perhaps you’ll spy dolphins cavorting in the ocean waves.

Your Portofino package includes a room for your wedding night so that you can snuggle under the covers and enjoy your ocean view a while longer. With first-class service and amenities offered in a spectacular setting, it’s no wonder that The Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club has become one of California’s most desirable venues.

CEREMONY CAPACITY: The Pacific or Bayside Ballrooms each hold 200 seated. Outdoors, the Poolside Area holds 200 seated guests.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: The Bayside Ballroom holds 220 seated or 300 standing. The Pacific Ballroom holds 140 seated or 250 standing guests.

MEETING CAPACITY: The Pacific or Bayside Ballrooms hold 200–300 seated, depending on the seating configuration.

Fees & Deposits

40% of the estimated event total is required to reserve your date; partial payments are due 6 months and 10 business days prior to the event. Wedding packages run $72–150/person, and include a custom wedding cake and an oceanside room for the bridal couple. Tax and a 20% service charge are additional.

A $1,900 ceremony setup fee is extra, as is hosted self-parking at $15/car. Special room rates for overnight hotel accommodations are available.
