Why We Like This Place

This is one lovely spot. Testarossa Winery is located on the grounds of the Novitiate Winery, in the foothills just above downtown Los Gatos. The road leading up to this site winds through a pleasant residential neighborhood, but once you enter the Novitiate’s stone and wrought-iron gates, you leave the modern world behind.

It was on top of this knoll that Jesuits began missionary work in California in the late 1860s. The first seminary was built here in 1888, giving way to a more permanent winery building in 1893. The latter is a fine example of a 19th-century gravity-flow winery, with the top floor built for receiving and crushing harvested grapes. The Jesuits stopped making Novitiate wines in 1985 and leased the winery to Testarossa in 2003. The original winery building still stands, forming the core of the present-day winery.

Both indoor and outdoor spaces are available for weddings, special events and business functions. Outside there’s a sunny, flower-lined courtyard patio, with a bank of ivy on one side and trees on the other. On one side of this terrace, recessed into the bank, is a two-stepped wooden deck, perfect for ceremonies and musicians.

Indoors, Testarossa has a unique group of spaces. As you pass through the front door, you find yourself in a cool stone tunnel that is one of the most interesting ceremony sites you’ll ever see. It feels exactly like a cave, with its century-old limestone walls and vaulted ceiling. A photographic history of the Novitiate is displayed on one wall, and artwork graces the other. Brass chandeliers softly light the way, as the bride walks down the center aisle, flanked on both sides by her seated guests.

The Castello Room, which normally serves as Testarossa’s tasting room, is a wonderful place for sampling wine and appetizers. The larger Palazzio Room is spacious enough for dinner and dancing. Intimate receptions and rehearsal dinners take place in the Niclaire Room, whose stone walls rise to a wood-beamed ceiling and enclose a grand table that extends the length of the room. Add beautiful linens, crystal and candles to make dining here a romantic affair.

Inside and out, Testarossa Winery conveys warmth and a sense of history. You couldn’t ask for a more tranquil and beautiful environment for any kind of event.

CEREMONY CAPACITY: The cave holds 80 seated guest and the patio holds 150 guests. EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: Various indoor spaces hold 15–150 seated or 35–150 standing guests. Combined, the Castello and Palazzio Rooms hold up to 200 guests. These 2 rooms combined with the patio hold a maximum of 300. The patio alone accommodates 100 seated or 200 standing guests outdoors. MEETING CAPACITY: Event spaces accommodate up to 60 guests seated theater-style.

Fees & Deposits

Half of the total purchase is required to reserve your date; the balance is due 2 weeks prior to the event. Rental fees for weddings range $4,000–6,500 depending on the space rented and the day of the week. Beverage packages are available, call for details.

Testarossa Winery offers two choices when planning your wedding. One option is to rent the facility and work directly with a preferred caterer to create a menu specialized to your needs. All-Inclusive Wedding packages include rental fee and a selection of gourmet menus from which to choose. Wedding packages start at $100/person. Tax and alcohol are additional.

Corporate meals range $70–180/person, including food, wine and service. Tax is additional.
