Description
If you’re looking for a dramatic backdrop for your wedding, you’ll want to check out the Summit House Restaurant. Perched on the highest point in Fullerton and built on a green swatch of city park land, the Summit House has one of the finest views in north Orange County. No matter where you stand on the grounds, a magnificent vista inspires you—to the north loom the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains; to the east are the Santa Anas; to the south and west are the Laguna Hills and the sparkling Pacific. Come nightfall, the view is also spectacular. As you look at the city lights winking in the valley below, you can easily imagine yourself adrift on a sea of stars.
Equally inspiring is the Summit House building itself. Although only fifteen years old, the restaurant has the appearance and appeal of a much older, wiser structure. Built in the tradition of an English country manor, the restaurant has a handsome cream and rich dark brown exterior, with a shingled gabled roof and a stacked-stone entryway. (Before construction, one of the partners actually went to England to do research on country manor architecture!) Lush sycamores border the restaurant, providing shade. A short stroll away stands the wedding gazebo, joyously festooned according to the couple’s wishes. From here the bride and groom can look out over all their guests, seated on the grass-and-concrete steps of an amphitheater carved into the hillside.
After the ceremony guests may amble through the California native garden that zigzags across the park grounds, or sip champagne on the outside patios before they slip into the Grand Summit Ballroom for the reception. Spacious, with delicate cream-colored walls and an open-beam ceiling, the ballroom seats a crowd comfortably and is surrounded on three sides by enormous bay windows and glass doors (need we mention the panoramic view?). Pewter chandeliers, British botanical prints, tapestries, and antique English oil paintings also lend a tasteful elegance. If your guest list is long and you need more room, a movable wall rolls aside, giving you access to the equally attractive Queen’s Room and adjoining patio.
To ensure that your big day is glitch free, the Summit House provides you with both a catering and a ceremony coordinator. And what service! No wonder this facility has such a great reputation. Truth is, the Summit House will go the whole nine yards to accommodate your wildest wish, whether you want to arrive in a roaring cavalcade of Harleys, as one couple did, or simply leave the old-fashioned way in a horse and buggy. In fact, many couples have been so impressed with the service they’ve received on their wedding day, they’ve made it a tradition to return on their anniversary to celebrate the occasion all over again!
