Why We Like This Place
Simon’s Waterfront Banquet Center has a front-row seat in an enviable location: San Pedro’s Ports O’Call, a quaint New England-style seaside village, with a meandering cobblestone promenade, boutique specialty shops, and a dynamic view of Los Angeles Harbor. When you arrive at Simon’s, they roll out the red carpet for you—literally. As you step off the carpet and into the center, you immediately notice a dramatic spiral staircase, winding up to the second floor and lit by miniature party bulbs. What a perfect spot for staging your own romantic Gone With the Wind scene or for snapping some formal photos.
Take the staircase up to The Admiralty Ballroom, outfitted with a private, built-in bar, chandelier lighting, and a ballroom-sized dance floor lined with full-length mirrors. You expect a great view here, and you won’t be disappointed. Make your way over to the 22 French doors that open out onto the adjoining veranda, and soak up the maritime scene below: sailboats, sea birds, cruise ships, and even the occasional sea lion keep the vista endlessly interesting.
Back downstairs is the intimate New Orleans-style Neptune Room, with its own bar and built-in dance floor. Decorative wall mirrors and black wrought-iron accents evoke the charm of the French Quarter, but just outside the wall-to-wall windows, the harbor panorama is pure California Dreamin’. French doors lead to the Garden Court, a breezy courtyard alive with hanging ferns, potted plants, trees and vibrant flowers. This space is a picturesque setting for an open-air ceremony, cocktail reception or cozy candlelit celebration.
What we like best about Simon’s—besides the unbeatable waterfront ambiance—is their down-to-earth, family-friendly attitude and ultra-accommodating staff. Long on flexibility and short on rules, they go out of their way to satisfy each client’s requests, including special cultural preferences. And their affordable prices (they offer wedding and holiday packages) make hosting a special event possible for just about everyone. It’s no mystery why this place has such widespread appeal.
