Why We Like This Place
You might expect thoroughbreds to canter up to the white fence that lines the drive to Poppy Ridge. The narrow road, divided by young grapevines along the median strip, winds through the biscuit-colored hills to a graceful hacienda-style clubhouse. Set on a hill, the spacious, tile-roofed edifice overlooks the forever-verdant fairways and greens of the Poppy Ridge Golf Course, one of the Northern California Golf Association’s two premier golf facilities. First opened for play in 1996, the 27-hole course and clubhouse is the sister facility of top-ranked Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach and, like the flower it’s named for, it epitomizes the sunny charm of the Golden State.
Friendly double doors open to a siesta-quiet lobby, where a large round table invites guests to sign in. Sunlight cascades through skylights, warming the rich earth tones of the carpet and drenching the pale yellow walls. On the far side of the lobby, the high-ceilinged Poppy Ridge Grill and Bar is a picturesque place for weddings, company celebrations, tournament banquets and more. It has two walls of windows, an expansive wraparound deck and a full walk-up bar. The north window’s commanding view of the Chardonnay and Zinfandel courses was voted “Best Restaurant View” by the Tri-Valley Herald in 2003, making it a prime spot to situate a banquet table or buffet.
In addition to its enviable vista, the restaurant has also earned high marks from repeat clientele for great food: The menus for hors d’oeuvres, sit-down dinners and buffets are mouthwatering. Start out with smoked salmon crostini with herb cream cheese, vegetable spring rolls with chili-garlic dipping sauce and crispy coconut prawns. Move on to marinated tri-tip of beef with wild mushroom sauce or ginger-sesame glaze, baked Alaskan salmon with fresh pineapple salsa, or applewood-smoked pork loin chops with apricot-cherry sauce. The site fee—an incredible value—includes an event planner and on-site coordinator, bartender, and all the props for the right presentation. And, of course, the staff is expert at personalizing any event.
If you’d rather entertain outdoors, reserve one of the building’s wide sun-splashed decks with their unobscured backdrops of sapphire lakes and emerald greens. There’s plenty of room for a ceremony on the pleasant east deck, where the accommodating staff will set up a beautiful arbor and chairs for your guests. Crystal and flatware sparkle in the natural light on the partially covered north deck, with its lofty Spanish-style tower and sweeping, flower-lined stairway. Whatever the occasion, this is a glorious setting for making merry. Lean out over the balustrade to admire the scenic surround, retire to a shady spot for an appreciative pause or raise a toast in the archway of the tower, where a delicate lantern hangs and swallows occasionally flit back and forth into the shadows. Then, grab colleagues, family and friends for a photo shoot on the property—with so much lovely scenery around, your photographer will have no trouble creating perfect portraits to add to your album of memories.

Fees & Deposits
The rental fee is required to reserve your date. The balance is due 14 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $300–3,000 depending on the type of event. Meals range $39–48/person. Tax, alcohol and service charge are additional.
