Ponte Family Estate Winery

Description

One of the most distinguished wineries in the Temecula Valley, the Ponte Family Estate is known for its first-rate wine and wonderful ambiance. Its signature barn-like Tasting Room and Marketplace building is visible from the main road, as is the adjacent large white Tent Pavilion. It’s also one of the best places in the Temecula wine region to get the lay of the land—310 acres of vineyards fan out around the winery, and the mountains surrounding the valley are always in sight. Add in the olive trees that thrive about the grounds, and you can’t help but feel like you’re out in the country.

This working winery has an ideal outdoor ceremony site that gets rave reviews from brides and photographers alike. It’s a circular lawn, book-ended by two striking weeping willows, that looks out onto vineyards and toward the landmark of Mt. Palomar in the distance. Most couples who marry here recite their vows under a flower-laden wrought-iron arch that frames the view. Guests sit on padded natural wood chairs that look right at home on the deep green grass. Beside the lawn there’s a beautiful, reposeful rose garden, with benches, paths and a centerpiece fountain made of rocks native to the area.

A short walk from the lawn and rose garden is the soaring Tent Pavilion, a venue that’s comfortable in all seasons. The sides can be rolled up or down depending on the weather, and thanks to Venetian windows inset in the siding, you always have access to the vineyard view. Its slender interior support columns have sprigs of curly willow wrapped around them—a decorative effect that seems to turn them into sapling trees encircling the large dance floor at the pavilion’s center. The structure’s main entrance faces a lawn bordered by hedges, and there’s a vine-covered arbor running along its length. Some wedding parties pick this scenic spot for their ceremony, because they like having the arbor—and the rose garden fountain beyond—in the background.

For rehearsal dinners and receptions, celebrants pass through the massive mahogany doors of the winery’s Mission-style Barrel Room to find themselves in a dramatically lit space among hundreds of casks of aging premium wine. Linen-clad tables with crystal and floral centerpieces contrast elegantly with the rustic barrels.

Among the amenities at the Winery are roomy changing suites for the bride and groom. Both are nicely outfitted with a bathroom, mirrors, armoire, sofa and chairs. Ranking perhaps even higher on the list of services is the Wedding Hostess, a concierge-like attendant who is available at no extra charge to attend to the needs of the bridal party. She arrives before the wedding and stays for the duration, preparing the changing suites and taking care of almost any minor emergency you can think of, like sewing on a fallen button or finding a flower girl’s lost basket. Her whole role is to help keep everybody happy and serene.

Surrounded by natural things—wood, stone and vineyards—many couples are entranced by the country elegance of this winery. They also appreciate being in a place where nothing is too hard or far to get to. That may be why so many of them are quick to seal the deal here, having realized in one short visit that the Ponte Family Estate just feels right.
