Why We Like This Place
With a setting you’re likely to see in one of those gorgeous photographic coffee table books, the lodge has long maintained a reputation as a terrific romantic hideaway. It’s on one of the prettiest sections of the Northern California coast, flanked by giant redwoods and Point Reyes National Seashore Park. Many of its guestrooms feature fireplaces, feather beds and whirlpool tubs with pastoral views of the lodge’s landscaped grounds and the park’s meadows and mountains beyond (yes, you can see the view from the tub!). Given its natural appeal, the lodge increases its romantic possibilities by not only hosting weddings and receptions, but by offering your family, friends and guests the opportunity to have an exclusive retreat for a long weekend celebration.
With the lodge as a backdrop and the expansive, sloping lawn and blooming English garden of the hotel grounds before you, outdoor weddings here are a special treat. You can tie the knot under the branches of a blossoming magnolia tree, or beneath any one of the mature olive, oak and shady alder trees that border the grounds.
For smaller weddings consider the lodge’s Casa Olema Retreat, which includes a cottage and lawn. Walk down a flagstone path behind the lodge and under a redwood arch, and you’ll be in a separate grass-covered area, surrounded by a formal herb and flower garden and apple, fig, pear and magnolia trees. On one side of the lawn is an arbor containing a built-in table and benches. Crafted from the lodge’s trademark golden fir and thickly draped with ivy, it’s a charming setting. For larger gatherings, you can set up tables and chairs on the lawn itself.
For small weddings held midweek, the delightful Creekside Cottage, located right on Olema Creek, is ideal for up to 10 people.
Just steps from the lodge is the 1865 Historic Farm House Restaurant, Bar and Deli. In addition to being available for rehearsal dinners and post-wedding brunches, it’s an option for intimate indoor weddings. When the weather’s warm you can also get married outside on the restaurant’s Clemente Garden Patio, which is bordered by a lawn and the Olema Creek.
Included with the rental of the main lodge, the Casa Olema cottage provides both a small kitchen for caterers and a bride’s dressing room. Plush furnishings, a fir-manteled fireplace and wainscoting create a room as quaint and personable as any one of the lodge’s guestrooms. The cottage’s eight-person outdoor hot tub, set within an enclosed brick patio, is a relaxing treat for bride and groom or members of the wedding party. You’ll have the exclusive use of its cozy breakfast room, where you can warm yourself in front of a massive stone fireplace, and the downstairs game room, outfitted with an antique billiard table. If you’re inviting out-of-town guests, there are also 21 quiet and restful rooms, all with private baths. The Point Reyes Seashore Lodge makes it possible to combine getting married and getting away in one of the state’s most scenic and secluded areas.
