Palm Pavilion

Why We Like This Place

Residents of the East Bay have long flocked to the Alameda County Fairgrounds for its grand signature events: the Scottish Games, the Good Guys Hot Rod Shows and, of course, the Alameda County Fair. But we bet you didn’t know that the Fairgrounds is a fantastic place for private events as well. Within its capacious grounds you’ll find banquet rooms, exhibit spaces, and outdoor sites, all at rates that will make you think there’s a misprint on the price sheet!

Anyone who thinks “fairgrounds” are no more than carnival midways will be pleasantly surprised by the vast rolling lawns, spreading shade trees and vibrant flowerbeds found on the Alameda County Fairgrounds’ property. Set within these tranquil environs are the Palm Pavilion, the Floriculture Building and Wine Garden event facilities. Surrounded by its namesake trees, the Palm Pavilion is the more formal of the two venues. Inside, the golden oak bar, pale terracotta tiles and cream walls lend the space an inviting warmth, and a variety of lighting options make this large (5,000-square-foot) space feel surprisingly intimate. Generous windows on three sides showcase views of the golf course and main lawn area. Three patios—two open and one covered—enclose the Palm Pavilion, allowing you and your guests to revel in the balmy Pleasanton weather. In addition, the Pavilion is fully air-conditioned, and boasts up-to-date audiovisual technology for those with more business-oriented functions in mind.

The nearby Floriculture Building is as close as you can get to a Hawaiian rain forest without getting on a plane. At one end of this expansive structure is a full-size rock waterfall, flanked by a riot of exotic flora. Tree ferns, palms and vines all grow in profusion, creating a verdant backdrop for your festivities. Though any sort of gathering would be enhanced by the Floriculture Building’s exceptional setting, it’s made-to-order for themed events—how about a luau or safari party? The adjacent, outdoor Wine Garden is a leafy glade enlivened by fountains, waterwheels and wine barrels that lend the space a rustic charm. And the Garden is enclosed by a stucco wall, which allows you to have privacy but still enjoy the outdoors. All of the above-mentioned venues host weddings, ceremonies, receptions and other special events. If none of these appeals to you, stroll around the seventeen acres of landscaped grounds—virtually all of it is available.

If you’re a bride who wants to get the most for her money, you won’t find a better bargain than the Alameda County Fairgrounds. The experienced staff will give you as much (or as little) assistance as you want in putting together a smashing wedding or party, and they can handle everything from an upscale wedding to a quinceañera to a company barbecue. Plus, they offer services you just won’t find at smaller facilities, such as an on-site plant nursery, acres of nearby parking, security and plenty of privacy. And the Alameda County Fairgrounds is a nonprofit organization, which means that the revenue they generate goes back into maintaining and improving the property, ensuring that the grounds and buildings are always in tip-top shape. The Alameda County Fairgrounds could be the surprise perfect place for your “grand signature event”!
