Description
If the sight of a boat-filled harbor can awaken the romantic in people, then Newport Harbor will make them fall madly in love. This three-mile-long waterway, framed by the mainland on one side and a narrow peninsula on the other, is the busiest small-craft port on the West Coast. It’s a real working watercourse, lined with 9,000 pleasure boats, as well as dry docks, piers, homes, office buildings, restaurants, shops and walkways. The buzz and energy here is exhilarating, and there’s never a lack of interesting things for the senses to feast on.
Pacific Avalon Yacht Charters knows just how attractive Newport Harbor is, and they’ve built a thriving business hosting weddings aboard their fleet, Ambassador, Majestic and Royal Princess.
The first area guests see when they board any of the vessels is the posh lower deck. For many, that initial view is like looking at a page from a glossy photo spread on great yacht interiors: the walls are lined with highly polished cherry; the carpeting is plush; and the sconces are made of gleaming brass and frosted white glass. Tiny running lights line the perimeter of the floor and ceiling, adding a hip touch to the decor, and there’s a baby grand piano next to the full-size bar. Toward the back of the lower deck, there’s a convenient shuttered counter that connects directly to the galley. After the ceremony, as people gather to mingle and eat, the shutters open wide to present freshly prepared food for either a sit-down dinner or a more informal buffet.
The four-hour, 36-mile tour of Newport Harbor begins when your boat moves smartly out into the channel and heads down to the breakwater where the bay meets the ocean. Then it circles back, passing by Lido Isle, Balboa Pavilion, Balboa Island, the Newport Yacht Club and the entrance to Newport Dunes.
Couples have their ceremony on the upper deck, an airy, bright, big-windowed space with plenty of room for seated guests, decorations and a wide aisle. They recite their vows with the bustling harbor behind them, backlit by the bay’s gorgeous Mediterranean-like sunlight. And as other craft pass by, they often pay a friendly tribute to the wedding festivities by sounding congratulatory toots and blasts on their horns.
You may think renting a luxurious yacht is simply out of your league, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find out that it’s quite affordable. And when it comes to planning your event, Pacific Avalon guarantees their full staff of coordinators will handle all your arrangements from beginning to end, including being present on the wedding day. These professionals orchestrate everything so smoothly you’ll be totally free to enjoy your glorious day.
Few things in life are more pleasant than cruising leisurely around Southern California’s most interesting harbor on a pleasure yacht with your true love and friends. Thanks to the Ambassador, Majestic and Royal Princess you can do just that.
