Monterey Hill Restaurant

Description

The secret is out, and San Gabriel Valley residents are just going to have to share their popular Monterey Hill Restaurant with the rest of Southern California! When it opened its doors in 1999, "the Steak House on the Hill" quickly caught on with local diners and party-givers. Not surprising, since this venue boasts that winning combination of great service, great food, and great banquet rooms—all of which adds up to…well, great celebrations!

Perched atop Monterey Park next to a golf course, the sprawling silver clapboard building is surrounded by willowy trees and tropical greenery; floral baskets adorn the walls with color. As you walk over the tiled footbridge leading to the entrance, lean over the railing and admire a waterfall that flows into ponds dotted with lily pads. This peaceful vision is echoed by the restaurant’s inviting interior. The décor, as evidenced by the flagstone fireplace and comfortable upholstered furnishings in the lobby, seems inspired by the country estate of a prosperous Victorian squire. Subdued lighting and the soft strains of music create a sentimental ambiance that puts guests in the mood for the main event.

If you’re planning an intimate wedding ceremony or casual cocktail reception, you have the pleasing al fresco option of the Patio, a tiled deck enclosed by an iron railing and brick flower beds filled with seasonal blooms. Hanging lanterns and fire pits, together with the hillside vista, evoke the refreshing atmosphere of a mountain retreat.

After the ceremony, guests can enjoy hors d’oeuvres, or they can adjourn to one of the Monterey’s many classic banquet rooms. A favorite is the University Room, which has dark wooden ceiling beams and moss-green wallcovering trimmed in oak. A row of windows decked in floral draperies frames a sweeping view. Another lovely room, sporting a rustic cut-stone wall and elaborate frosted iron sconces and chandeliers, is an excellent choice for an elegant reception.

For a more traditional reception, the Grand Ballroom features wood paneling embellished with gilded wall sconces. Mauve padded chairs harmonize with the burgundy drapes, or opt for ecru slipcovers and bows for a dressier look. A polished dance floor puts the bride and groom center-stage for their first dance.

Monterey Hill’s experienced banquet staff is so committed to excellent service that they offer an annual Bridal Showcase. At this fun event, you can sample a variety of Hor d’oeurves and interview vendors who have earned the Monterey "seal of approval." The staff welcomes these opportunities as a way to get to know a couple, so they can best design the event that they’ve always fantasized about.

In keeping with their dedication to their clients, the banquet staff has put together remarkably affordable event packages. Would you believe a reception, including a made-to-order wedding cake, starts at just $39.95 per person? There’s no stinting on quality either. Monterey "regulars" know that the cuisine is delicious, abundant and exquisitely presented.

Even if you’ve never considered holding your event in Monterey Park, the warm welcome you’ll receive up on Monterey Hill may turn you into a regular, too.
