McCormick and Schmick’s Beverly Hills

Description

Beverly Hills is recognized worldwide as a magnet for the wealthy and famous, and its main artery, Rodeo Drive, is a chic shopper’s paradise. An even more exclusive enclave is Via Rodeo, a quaint re-creation of a European promenade set on a gently sloping cobbled lane. Whether you approach from Rodeo Drive and take a leisurely stroll along the curved path or enter on Wilshire Blvd. and mount the "Spanish Steps" flanked by travertine fountains and marble statuary, prepare to be swept up in a cloud of couture. As you amble past the espresso carts and potted blooms, you realize you’ve entered a designer dreamscape… Tiffany…Versace…the names caress the imagination like a pashmina shawl, conjuring up visions of unrivaled luxury. The deceptively modest storefronts, done in old-fashioned European architecture, beckon you to explore their opulence.

But forge ahead to the top of the lane for a delightful surprise—McCormick & Schmick’s Beverly Hills, a Pacific seafood grill. The venue seems surprisingly at ease among its pseudo-European neighbors, and many a window-shopper stops in for a refreshing brew on the inviting Patio or in the homey bar. It’s a sublime people-watching vantage point, and Happy Hour here is considered Beverly Hills’ finest, partly because McCormick & Schmick’s has a way of making guests feel comfortable and relaxed.

The Patio is filled with bistro tables & umbrellas. Mahogany doors on one side open into the bar, and at the back a pair of doors topped by a green awning leads to the restaurant. The Beverly Press calls the Patio "one of the most desirable places in town," so why not reserve this prime spot for your own al fresco event? Have a fun and casual cocktail reception, or add white tablecloths, tivoli lights and candles for an elegant soirée. If you really want to indulge, book the entire Via Rodeo, and pretend that the whole piazza is yours to command.

The interior of the restaurant has its own attractions. Richly paneled mahogany walls and deep green carpet surround private booths with elaborate wrought-iron railings. The Rodeo Executive Dining Room features a magnificent stained-glass ceiling, which is echoed in similar touches throughout the restaurant. An impressive collection of vintage black & white prints chronicles Beverly Hills’ past. The atmosphere is chummy and refined, like a distinguished gentleman’s club.

For a private party, reserve the Wilshire Room on the second floor. You’ll find the same traditional decor up here, as well as your own private bar and kitchen and live music capabilities. A row of arched windows overlooks Wilshire Boulevard, and amber wall sconces, brass trim and stained-glass insets in the ceiling enhance the gracious ambiance.

No matter which area you select for your celebration, your guests will be thrilled by the food. The restaurant has a reputation for fresh, and although fish is their specialty, you have many other delicious options to choose from. So take a walk on the indulgent side, and come to McCormick & Schmick’s on Via Rodeo. You’re worth it!
