Why We Like This Place
Mammoth Mountain isn’t just for skiers anymore. In fact, leisure-seekers come to this Eastern Sierra oasis year-round for golf, fishing, and hiking—or to just kick back in the serene alpine environment. Still others, enticed by the dramatic terrain and the deluxe amenities of Mammoth Mountain and the Village at Mammoth, come here to wed.
Though the whole town of Mammoth Lakes is only four miles from end to end, the resort encompasses a vast assortment of lodges and event venues, each with its own distinctive appeal. The resort’s knowledgeable staff will assist couples in customizing their Mammoth experience to suit their personal style.
For an experience as exhilarating as falling in love, adventurous couples say “I do” atop Mammoth’s 11,000-foot summit—one of the highest peaks in California. In keeping with this wild wedding scenario, newlyweds can ski down the mountain, wedding veil trailing behind like a flurry of snowflakes. Or treat everyone to a champagne gondola ride for an authentic bird’s-eye view of the town below. Disembark mid-mountain at Parallax, an elegant restaurant with soaring windows on two sides and a commodious sundeck for sizeable receptions.
On Mammoth’s northwest fringe, rustic romance flourishes at Tamarack Lodge and Resort, whose cabins overlook the crystalline shores of Twin Lakes. Boasting high-beamed ceilings and the warm patina of the past, Tamarack’s wood-frame cabins are spread throughout the forest where chipmunks and mule deer meander among lodgepole pines and songbirds croon from fir trees. Here, you can bask in the ever-changing hues of the seasonal foliage, particularly breathtaking in early fall when golden autumnal light accentuates the orange-red of the aspens. Spring introduces its own palette, with deep blue lupine and the burnished reds and golds of Indian paintbrush in colorful clusters around the base of trees. In winter, everything is covered in pristine white. After an invigorating day on the slopes, cozy up in front of the fireplace with your sweetheart as a light snow falls outside. Views from Tamarack stretch across the lakes, and from summer through fall you can cross the footbridge that leads to a tiny islet holding the Forest Chapel. Have an intimate ceremony beneath a log trellis, then celebrate your union at one of Mammoth’s many great reception sites.
The Mountainside Conference Center in the historic Main Lodge offers classic hospitality and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame an up-close panorama of the ski slopes. This venue provides an exquisite winter wonderland setting in which to exchange vows and enjoy an unforgettable reception with family and friends.
Modern sophisticates might set up base camp at the Village Lodging, where luxury meets state of the art for the ultimate in accommodations. From this prime location at the hub of the bustling Village at Mammoth, guests can indulge in a variety of upscale boutiques, fine restaurants and exciting nightlife. The Village Lodging also has two event-friendly banquet rooms, while the waterfalls and lush flora in the surrounding landscape make for amazing photo opportunities.
Winter wedding, summer honeymoon, or ski-weekend getaway—anytime’s the right time to play—big-time—at Mammoth Mountain!
