Why We Like This Place
Would you like to have your wedding at a lovely, full-service facility while supporting a worthwhile cause? You can easily accomplish both aims at the Los Gatos History Club. This unique organization has been a Los Gatos fixture since l897, when six women met in the Los Gatos library and decided to form a club to study the history of other countries. By 1907, the group had grown too big to meet in private homes, so the women decided to build their own clubhouse. Determined to pay for it themselves, they borrowed the money, and one year later the “History Club of Los Gatos” held its grand opening. From its beginning, this unusual club has concerned itself with the needs and interests of the women in the community, and in its early years joined with other women’s groups to influence policy-making on a state and national level. Today, the club continues to promote friendship among women, aids local educational and charitable institutions, and encourages community awareness and involvement. And though the Los Gatos History Club may not be the most well-known fundraising organization in the South Bay, it’s garnered national recognition, as evidenced by the framed letters from such luminaries as former president Bill Clinton, congressman Tom Lantos, and former governor Pete Wilson.
Located in a woodsy residential neighborhood, the Los Gatos History Club occupies a modest, yet charming, ranch-style building whose simple lines and neutral taupe exterior give it the kind of unobtrusive elegance often found in Japanese architecture. Inside, the History Club’s gleaming hardwood floors, fresh white walls and unusual peaked, buttressed ceiling provide the perfect backdrop for any type of decorating scheme you desire. At one end of the room is a raised stage with a grand piano; at the other, a floor-to-ceiling window frames a fenced garden lush with lacy Japanese maples and flourishing tree ferns. This greenery is echoed by potted ficus trees placed strategically throughout the room. Dimmable main lights and a variety of stage lighting options help to create that special mood. Along one wall, large windows and French doors look out onto a fenced patio where ceremonies are held. Chock-full of colorful roses and sheltered by mature trees, it’s as cozy and private as any couple could wish. A wooden arbor, covered with climbing roses and wisteria vines, is the preferred spot for exchanging vows. The building’s deep eaves shade part of the patio, outfitted with ceiling fans and heat lamps to make it comfortable no matter what the weather.
Perhaps the Club’s elegant simplicity and historical relevance have piqued your interest, but you’re wondering about the other elements so necessary for a smashing event: food, drink and service. Well, let us put your mind at ease right now—this facility specializes in weddings. In fact, the staff has probably handled more weddings than a Las Vegas justice of the peace! They also pride themselves on making your event stress-free, by taking care of as many details as possible. And they’ll put together a wedding package that fits your tastes and budget as beautifully as your wedding gown fits you. Speaking of wedding gowns, the Los Gatos History Club also has a spacious ladies room, equipped with a large mirror, makeup table and a generous closet for use by you and your bridal party. Needless to say, the Club’s expertise in coordinating weddings can be applied to other special events as well. Whatever you’re planning, the Los Gatos History Club will make sure your event comes off without a hitch. You may not get a letter of commendation from the president, but you’ll get heaps of praise from your happy guests.
