Long Beach Museum of Art

Description

If you’ve contemplated having an outdoor event with sweeping ocean views, this is a must-see location. Perched on a bluff overlooking Long Beach Harbor and the Pacific Ocean, the Long Beach Museum of Art and its well-tended grounds offer a surprisingly spacious setting.

The property features a historic landmark—the beautifully restored Elizabeth Milbank Anderson House, a 1912 brick and timber Craftsman-style residence with an adjacent carriage house. A picturesque arched entryway welcomes guests into the private garden, flanked by the historic home and the gleaming new exhibition galleries.

Inside the entryway a broad manicured lawn provides a smooth green expanse for weddings, receptions or corporate events under the sun—or stars. The seaward side of the garden has spectacular views of the white sands of Long Beach, the harbor (including the Queen Mary) and the Pacific beyond.

Nestled between the historic home and the two-story galleries, the garden provides a stunning panorama of the Long Beach Harbor. This is a versatile al fresco spot, great for ceremonies, cocktail parties or receptions. It doesn’t matter what kind of event you have here, you’ll enjoy fabulous ocean vistas from the lawn or from the patio surrounding the Claire Falkenstein fountain. And no matter what the weather, you can still safely plan on having your event outdoors, since the garden lawn can be tented.

The new galleries, situated next to the garden lawn, are where the Museum’s ongoing exhibits and permanent collections are showcased. The structure is designed in the traditional Arts and Crafts style consistent with Museum’s historic architecture. Polished concrete floors and a dramatic staircase are a perfect backdrop for receptions.

An area for smaller gatherings is the Museum restaurant, located on the ground floor of the Elizabeth Milbank Anderson house. This is a perfect space for an intimate rehearsal dinner or a smaller wedding. The restaurant, occupying what used to be the historic home’s living and dining rooms, is warm and inviting, with mahogany paneled walls, a hardwood floor, multiple fireplaces and bay windows with views of the fountain and the ocean beyond.
