Description

Early South Bay developers designed La Venta Inn as a place to entertain prospective land buyers, and it occupies a prime spot on a hill overlooking the sweep of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Built in the 1920s, its Spanish-style architecture is set off by a distinctive tower, red-tiled roofs and, in front, a courtyard with a bubbling fountain enclosed by a bougainvillea-covered arbor. The building was at one time used as a private residence, and has all the warmth and convenience of a home.

Inside, the rooms are spacious, airy and bright, with wood floors and cream-colored walls providing a neutral backdrop for decorations. The large main ballroom has lofty open-beamed ceilings, antique wrought-iron chandeliers and a handsome fireplace with a carved stone mantelpiece. French doors open out onto a Palos Verdes stone patio that spans the length of the house, commanding stunning views of the entire L.A. Basin and Santa Monica Bay below. Two steps lead down onto a broad semi-circle of lawn surrounded by flowering shrubs and palm trees. A simple white gazebo stands at the lawn’s edge, with the sweep of the coastline as a dramatic backdrop. The developers chose this site well—it has a view that makes you want to stay here long after your celebration.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: La Venta holds 250 seated or standing guests.

MEETING CAPACITY: Up to 75 guests can be seated conference-style or up to 125 theater-style.

Fees & Deposits

For weddings, a $2,500 nonrefundable first payment, which is applied toward the food and beverage total, is required to book the site. A second payment for half the estimated food and beverage total is due 6 months prior to the event; the balance and a $2,000 refundable damage deposit are payable with a guaranteed guest count 9 days before the function. For ceremonies, an additional $1,500 is charged. Menus are provided and the food minimum ranges $6,000–17,000 depending on day of week and time frame. During the off season (November 1st–March 31st), minimums range $5,000–14,000.

Meals start at $87/person; food stations where everything is display-cooked to order run $88–95+/person. Custom menus, formal dining or white-glove services are available; fees will vary. A $12/person beverage charge is required and includes unlimited nonalcoholic beverages, portable bars and professional bartenders. Clients can bring their own alcoholic beverages with no corkage fee. All menu prices include exclusive use of the property, personal event designer and complimentary parking. Tax and a 21% service charge are additional. Off season pricing is available between November and March offering significant discounts from posted food minimums.

For business functions and meetings, fees vary depending on guest count and food service. Call for details.

Availability

For weddings, year-round, daily 10am–3pm or 5pm–10pm, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day and Easter. Functions are in 5-hour blocks, with 2 events per day. Additional hours and all-day events can be accommodated for an extra fee.

For business functions, meeting space is available Monday–Thursday in blocks of 4, 6 or 8 hours.
