How do you know when you’re in La Jolla? Just look for the blue-and-gold-domed tower and the grand, very pink Mediterranean façade of La Valencia Hotel, a La Jolla landmark since 1926. Its cliffside location, terrific ocean views, luxurious amenities and superb service have made the resort a familiar name to just about everyone west of the Rockies. People have been flocking to La Valencia since the Roaring 20s, knowing that they’d find everything necessary for a restful, reinvigorating retreat. What they might not have known is that La Valencia is also a special place to host weddings, with two noteworthy ceremony sites and a banquet room with a spectacular ocean vista.
A favorite site for ceremonies is just off the lobby itself. Known as La Sala, this handsome space makes a fine setting for a dignified ritual. Here, you can walk down an aisle carpeted with soft-toned Oriental rugs and take your vows in front of a large window overlooking the ocean. A lofty ceiling of hand-painted beams and panels, wrought-iron chandeliers and antique furniture impart a Mediterranean atmosphere to this gracious room, most of which the hotel can cordon off for your exclusive use.
For outdoor ceremonies, La Valencia has a vivid garden courtyard, framed by flower beds and low scalloped stucco walls painted the soft pink that gives the entire hotel its distinctive tropical glow. Once inside the courtyard’s white wrought-iron gate, you’ll find yourself standing in a spacious grassy enclosure with dazzling views of the Pacific. An alcove facing the ocean seems designed to accommodate a ceremonial arch, while the lawn provides a smooth surface for guest seating.
If you love the ocean view from the courtyard, keep it in sight by holding the reception in La Valencia’s sixth floor Verandah Room and Terrace. An abundance of decorative plants lend this room a garden-like quality. A section of the floor, tiled in black and white, and a charming outside deck offer ample space for a cocktail reception prior to dinner. As far as food’s concerned, La Valencia’s trio of four-star restaurants, each with its own distinctive culinary style, guarantees you’ll come up with a knockout menu for your celebration.
One of San Diego’s noblest and best-known establishments, La Valencia backs up her 80-year reputation with a continuing tradition of service and style. Despite her venerable age, this grande dame of luxury hotels has hung onto her youthful charm. She continues to be an ornament to the La Jolla seaside—and she still looks pretty in pink.

Fees & Deposits
The ceremony fee ranges $1,200–1,600 (depending on the time of the event) for either the Garden or La Sala. Weekend room rental fees are: $250 for the Boardroom, $500 for the Galeria Room, $1,500 for the Verandah Room. The Verandah Room’s rental fee on Saturday evenings is a $16,000 minimum food and beverage expenditure. To reserve your date, a $2,500 deposit is due when reservations are made. Half the estimated food and beverage cost is due 7 months prior to the event; the balance is payable 30 days prior. Wedding packages are available at $95–130/person. Beverages, tax and a 20% service charge are additional. For weekday meetings, rental fees are: Boardroom, $250; Verandah, $500; or Galeria, $350. Please note, rental fees are waived if food and beverage minimums are met.
