Description
Kuleto’s has long been a local favorite for its Italian cuisine, but the restaurant also serves up a quintessential San Francisco experience. Located just off Union Square, it’s part of the energetic heart of The City: Theater-goers, shoppers and visitors from all over the world give the surrounding streets a cosmopolitan buzz, and the Powell Street cable car runs right past its front door.
Inside the restaurant, bustling San Francisco gives way to mellow Italy. The high vaulted ceiling and open design create a feeling of spaciousness, while marble floors, wrought-iron and copper railings, dark wood detailing and sumptuous brocade fabrics evoke an Old World sensibility. As you look around, you feel warmth exuding from every corner: Garlands of garlic, dried peppers and herbs hang over an antique mahogany bar laden with tempting antipasto dishes; enormous floral arrangements add bursts of color throughout; fast-moving chefs animate the exhibition kitchen. The entire restaurant can be reserved for a grand special event, and it’s well worth it to have this delicious place all to yourself.
However, if you’re planning something smaller, like a rehearsal dinner, anniversary party or meeting, Kuleto’s offers several other options. All of them are easily accessed in the adjoining Villa Florence Hotel, a historic boutique establishment with its own distinctive Italian ambiance. Plate glass partitions are all that separate the restaurant from the hotel’s lobby and wine bar, a charming space for a cocktail reception. Decorated in Italian Renaissance hues of crimson, gold, violet and bronze, it features a Medici-style fireplace and mural of 16th-century Florence.
For complete privacy, Kuleto’s has four additional dining rooms elsewhere in the hotel. The Board Room, which has its own bar/reception area, is the most intimate. The Caruso Room accommodates executive luncheons or family gatherings at one long dramatic table, the Da Vinci Room seats up to 16 guests and the Machiavelli Room is the largest space, with comfortable seating at round tables. All four rooms feature traditional Italian artwork and mirrors on the walls, as well as mahogany wainscoting and trim.
They also enjoy the same high-caliber cuisine and service that have made Kuleto’s a San Francisco destination for Italian food lovers. Executive Chef Robert Helstrom puts together menus that feature fresh seasonal and regional vegetables, fish and meats. His carte du jour showcases classic Italian dishes like free-range mushroom-stuffed chicken breast with prosciutto, wild mushrooms and Madeira cream; Chianti-braised lamb shank, asparagus risotto and almond mint pesto; and grilled filet mignon with gorgonzola tortellini, spicy escarole and garlic confit.
With its creative menu and prime downtown location, Kuleto’s has that rare ability to deliver the essence of culinary Italy and the flavor of San Francisco at the same time.

Fees & Deposits
50% of the estimated event total is required to reserve your date; the balance is due at the end of the event. Room rental fees vary, starting at $75. Meals start at $40/person. Customized menus are available. Alcohol, tax and a 20% service charge are additional.
