Description

You’re looking for a setting that’s serene, secluded and picturesque, but also close to an airport and a freeway. Moreover, you need a venue that won’t be intimidated by a long guest list. An impossibly tall order? Not at all.

The Irvine Marriott near the John Wayne Airport can satisfy all your requirements. In 2007 the hotel introduced its newest event space, the Tuscany Ballroom. It’s located in a separate building from the main hotel, and its façade borrows its look from an old Italian stone farmhouse. Three impressive, arched glass doorways framed in stone define the wall that separates the ballroom from its adjoining patio, and provide easy access between the two spaces. The resulting indoor-outdoor flow makes this site extremely flexible in terms of its use, and a private entrance ensures that the rest of the world won’t intrude on your celebration.

The patio is equally lovely for a ceremony, for serving cocktails and hors d’oeuvres or for dancing under the stars. This semicircular garden terrace is sheltered by a protective line of cypress trees and a wood trellis that can be dressed up with tulle or flowers. The focal point is a large fireplace that looks spectacular at night with flames leaping from colored glass rocks. Off to one side is a blue-tiled water feature that splashes pleasantly.

The Tuscany Ballroom is spacious enough for a sit-down dinner for up to 220 guests, plus a DJ and dance floor. Those tall arched doorways along the wall facing the patio let in the afternoon sun, or they can be curtained for intimacy and warmth.

If you’re planning an extremely large function, you’ll be thankful for the Grand Ballroom on the first floor of the hotel proper. With its sixteen-foot ceiling and 900-person capacity, it can accommodate both a ceremony and reception—not to mention a 16-pillared mandap, the colorful canopy popular in traditional Hindu ceremonies. But you don’t have to reserve the whole room—it can be divided into sections. The atmosphere is elegant, with art deco chandeliers, cream-colored walls, and adjustable lighting that allows you to set the mood. Spotlights add drama for your grand entrance, first dance, and the sweethearts’ or head table.

Guests mingle over cocktails in the Grand Ballroom foyer, and all the women you’ve invited will appreciate the extra-large bathrooms nearby that feature separate vanity areas with plenty of seating and mirrors.

Getting married in the city doesn’t mean you have to forsake privacy or anything else. The Irvine Marriott’s facilities are first-rate, and their certified wedding planners will help you orchestrate every aspect of your event.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: The Grand Ballroom can accommodate 900 seated guests with a dance floor, and the Tuscany Ballroom holds 220 seated with a dance floor.

MEETING CAPACITY: Meeting rooms hold 1,000 seated guests.

Fees & Deposits

A $1,000 deposit is required to reserve your date. A portion is due 90 days before the event and the balance is due 4 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $2,000–2,500 depending on the day of the event and the space rented. Meals range $81–110/person. Tax, alcohol and a 22% service charge are additional.
