Hotel Montgomery

Description

What if we told you we’d met someone—someone friendly, urbane and witty, someone chic but not stand-offish, someone with respect for tradition, but definitely fashion-forward? You’d want to meet this person, right? Well, meet Hotel Montgomery. Not a person, but a boutique hotel with a great personality.

Hotel Montgomery is a restored historic hotel in downtown San Jose that was moved 186 feet from its original site to make room for the Fairmont South Tower. Much of its Renaissance Revival décor was preserved and mixed with contemporary elements like Artemide lamps, faux fur armchairs and abstract art to create a distinctly Urban Cool environment.

Hotel Montgomery’s spacious lobby, its expansive outdoor Plaza and its restaurant, Paragon, are all options for your wedding and reception. And, as these areas are connected to one another, they work well in combination for a large event. Paragon, furnished in mid-century chic (i.e. 1950s décor), serves American Brasserie cuisine, and accommodates buffet or banquet dining. A private dining room, its walls draped floor-to-ceiling with shantung silk in jewel colors, is perfect for a rehearsal dinner.

The Plaza, located in front of the hotel, could be used for the ceremony, or for a reception and dancing. Sheltered by the surrounding towers of downtown San Jose, it has four waterfall-style tiled fountains and natural rattan furniture scattered throughout a grove of small olive trees. If you’re using the Plaza alone, the area will be screened to provide privacy for your event, or you can use the entire ground floor and take advantage of the convenient flow between the Plaza, the restaurant and the lobby.

Six bridal suites are available, and any three adjacent ones can be combined to create a large three-bedroom "super" suite for a variety of functions. The night before the wedding, the bride and her attendants can use this oversized suite for a sleep-over bachelorette party. The next day, the space serves as the dressing area for the bride and her entourage. Afterwards, the suites can be uncombined, and one of them reserved for newlyweds on their wedding night. All of these rooms feature smart and stylish appointments, Aveda bath products, plush terry robes, Brookstone stereos and a long list of other luxurious touches.

During chilly weather tenting is available for the Plaza, and if your guest list is too long for the hotel you can host your festivities at the neighboring San Jose Museum of Art. The hotel will still provide catering and other services for your celebration, and thanks to their unique "event partnership" with the museum, you’ll receive discounted rates when you book any of the museum’s attractive spaces.

You won’t find a Hotel Montgomery anywhere else in the world. When the hotel first opened its doors in 1911, it was the pride and joy of San Jose businessman T.S. Montgomery. Hailed as cutting edge then, it has only become more dashing and stylish in its present day incarnation. It’s a true home-grown San Jose original, and its staff is as proud of it as Mr. Montgomery was nearly a century ago.
