Hotel Kabuki

Why We Like This Place

Elegantly balancing both Western and Eastern influences, the Hotel Kabuki is a serene retreat in the heart of historic Japantown. A multimillion-dollar renovation has given this Joie de Vivre property a modern, sophisticated interior filled with elements that also reflect the refined beauty of the past.

A distinctively Japanese tone is set by the Summer Garden, a calm enclave featuring a koi pond and waterfall surrounded by a perfectly manicured landscape. This is a lovely spot for a small ceremony and wedding photos.

On every floor you’ll discover displays of priceless art, some of it dating back to the 1700s. Downstairs on the Garden Level, the impressive Imperial Ballroom features hand-painted Japanese murals, custom-made chandeliers and sconces, and a parquet dance floor. Through a large picture window you have a view of the Spring Garden, an artful arrangement of white rocks and lush ferns. Prefunction cocktails are often served in the Imperial Ballroom Foyer, whose walls are lined with exquisite, one-of-a-kind Japanese artworks.

Back up on the Lobby level is the hotel’s junior ballroom, the Sakura Room. This space is notable for its shoji-coffered ceiling and view of the Summer Garden through a floor-to-ceiling window. Natural light flows into the room during the day, and at night adjustable lighting allows you to create whatever ambiance you like. The Garden, softly lit in the evening, is a tranquil addition to the mood you’ve created. Additional rooms, some with garden vistas, are available for smaller functions.

If you stay overnight here, you’ll enjoy services unique to this premier hotel. Shortly after check-in you’re treated to a complimentary tea service—based on the traditional Japanese tea ceremony—in your guestroom. Bathing is taken to a luxurious new level: Deep-soaking tubs in guestrooms are ergonomically designed to let you immerse your entire body up to the neck in hot water enhanced by whatever soothing bath product you’ve chosen from the inspired bath menu. And for the ultimate bathing experience, reserve a bath butler to prepare your special bath for you. What do we recommend for couples? The Love option, of course. It includes meditation lavender bath salts, tea lights, rose petals, and champagne & chocolates, all accompanied by classical music. These indulgences are just some of the ways Hotel Kabuki achieves its goal of creating the perfect environment for stimulating all five senses and lending comfort to the soul.

Hotel Kabuki’s central location puts you within walking distance to shopping, dining, a new Sundance film theater complex, and a variety of music venues. Union Square, the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Chinatown and the famed cable cars, as well as university and medical center businesses are also nearby.

Whether you’re planning an intimate rehearsal dinner, a grand gala or a seminar, Hotel Kabuki’s variety of options, multilingual staff and emphasis on personalized service will make it a success.
