Why We Like This Place
Contemporary and classic, warm and cool—handsome Hotel Adagio has the kind of vibe that makes world travelers feel at home and locals feel as if they’re worlds away. Whether your event is business or pleasure or a mixture of both, you’ll find this tastefully appointed venue to be just the place. Its location, in the midst of San Francisco’s Theater district a few short blocks from Union Square, is unbeatable—as is the ambiance.Guests often gather in the high-ceilinged lobby where they can converse around a series of roomy and sophisticated seating “cubbies” that create a sense of privacy. Large windows framed in sheer draperies let in lots of light and a street-level peek at the bustling cityscape. The property’s elite provenance and Spanish Colonial Revival architectural roots—it was built in 1929 as the El Cortez Hotel—are suggested in the sophisticated mix of texture, hue and line. A long hall lined with richly upholstered banquettes leads to the business center and the entrance of the award-winning, 2008 Michelin-star recipient Cortez Restaurant and Bar, which offers ultra chic Mediterranean cuisine. The Cortez Room, a boardroom/private dining area adjacent to the restaurant, has the right dimensions for cozy pre- and post-function gatherings.
Sixteen floors up on the penthouse level, the Siena Room with its grand fireplace and sweeping city views provides an opportunity for celebrating with style. The linen-covered walls; gilt mirrors; satiny, pewter-colored draperies; and extraordinarily beautiful stenciled coffered ceiling lend the space an Old World elegance and intimacy. Heavy folding doors open onto the slightly smaller Seville Room, expanding the available space as your function requires. Both rooms have the same plush chocolate-and-charcoal carpeting, walnut accents and copper and wrought-iron touches and are ideal for any kind of entertaining. Cocktail parties, buffets, seated dinners or dances—they’ll all play out well here. And if you want to take part of your celebration outdoors, the spacious Seville Terrace is a wonderful spot to soak up The City. Guests can lounge on dark wicker couches and chairs or chat, champagne in hand, between large potted palms as they gaze out at San Francisco.
To further extend your warm welcome, invite family and friends into the Bolero Suite, which opens onto the Terrace. It’s one of two penthouse pads with dramatic designer fireplaces, capacious living and dining areas, exquisite glass-tiled bathrooms (with luxurious bath and shower spas), mini-bars and 32″ LCD TVs in parlors and master bedrooms. You might want to occupy one of these suites and tuck special guests away in the other. And no need to turn other celebrants out into the cold once the party is over: 171 guestrooms and a number of junior suites on sixteen floors, plus some of the best San Francisco has to offer mere steps away, ensure that everyone will be very well taken care of.
