Why We Like This Place

Fairy tales begin in places like this. Set in the tranquil community of Harbor Bay on historic Bay Farm Island in Alameda, the perfectly picturesque Grandview Pavilion does seem almost too good to be true. The lovely ivy-covered Mediterranean-style building sits just at the edge of the championship 36-hole Chuck Corica Golf Course, far enough away from the main complex to maintain an aura of seclusion without sacrificing the lush tree-dotted green and fairway views.

There is a soft sheen to the handsome Spanish-style doors that open onto the elegantly tiled foyer and spacious Ballroom. Full-size French windows cover the facing wall, creating a backdrop of eucalyptus, pine trees and meticulously manicured lawns. The Edenic surroundings find their way inside in the luxuriant garden feel of the carpet’s pale floral tones and the sunlit brilliance of the cream-colored walls and white crown moldings and trim. Coppered chandeliers hang from the airy coffered ceilings, and the built-in granite, copper and mahogany bar and service area has back-to-back access from either room.

It’s a magnificent stage for any high-end social or corporate event, but weddings are truly exceptional here. In the Ballroom, enormous mirrors overlook the polished, hand-laid cherrywood dance floor, amplifying the area and the energy. There’s even a professional DJ booth seamlessly tucked away behind one retractable mirror for clutter-free entertaining. If dancing isn’t on the agenda, the dance floor is an ideal place to set up a dramatic serpentine table showcasing an exquisite food presentation.

Did we mention that all the food for this venue is provided by one of the Bay Area’s top caterers? Grand Catering has been wowing clients with excellent service and delectable dining experiences for decades. Their offerings look and taste like works of art. Whether your plans are simple (French bistro, BBQ, California cuisine) or extravagant (Asian fusion, luau with full roast pig, mashed potato bar with martini glass service), the eats will be outstanding—a true feast for the eyes and palate.

As if this weren’t enough, the facility has recently added a spectacular tri-peaked tent pavilion. When the weather’s warm, its clear “walls” are opened to let in balmy breezes. During cooler months or for evening events, the pavilion can be enclosed and heated for guests’ comfort. But no matter what the season, this venue provides a garden experience with views of the surrounding flowers, plants and golf course. If you have your ceremony in the garden tent pavilion, a white trellis at one end serves as an arch. Two indoor fountains create their own soothing music, while chandeliers and twinkle lights add an enchanting sparkle.

There’s even a beautiful room for the bride and her attendants with pink champagne walls, soft moss-colored carpeting and private restrooms with peach marble accents, but our guess is the ladies will spend little time there.
