Why We Like This Place
Located in the striking seven-story Mediterranean Gaia Building in the heart of downtown Berkeley, the Gaia Arts Center captures the pleasant and distinguished feel of its historic neighborhood—but with a decidedly updated twist. The interior spaces feature contemporary detailing and state-of-the-art technology.
Guests enter through the spacious lobby, from which they can access the ground-floor Theatre and the second-floor Mezzanine. The Theatre is ideal for business meetings, seminars, social functions, or a glamorous wedding reception. It boasts a high ceiling, theatrical lighting, professional sound and audiovisual systems, and a dramatic full-size stage that has rocked to the rhythms of performers like Pete Escovido. Its stylish black- and-buff color scheme lends an air of sophistication to this artsy playhouse, and few props are needed to transform it from a venue for performances and recitals into a ceremony space, banquet hall or ballroom.
The stairs or the elevator take you up to the second-floor Mezzanine. This expansive loft, lined with large arched windows that let in abundant natural light, is roomy enough for everything from an elegant sit-down affair to a stylish buffet.
For the ultimate showstopper, ride the elevator up to the Roof top Garden Terrace. The sky-canopied rooftop courtyard features panoramic views that encompass San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. A fancy wrought-iron balustrade, Spanish roof tiles and a verdigris archway provide a dramatic backdrop for sunset vows. These classic touches, combined with the site’s modern lines and grand scale, make for a breathtaking outdoor ceremony setting.
