Why We Like This Place
For almost one hundred years, the words “Fairmont Hotel” have represented the ne plus ultra in grand hotels, and the Fairmont San Jose lives up to this reputation admirably. Winner of the AAA Four Diamond Award, the Fairmont San Jose offers not only the elegant décor, luxurious accommodations and exemplary service that has made the chain famous around the world, but an entire floor of ballrooms and meeting spaces tailor-made for sophisticated celebrations and business functions.
Planning a sit-down dinner for 1,000 guests, or a banquet for 800? Then you’ll want to check out the 13,000-square-foot Imperial Ballroom and the 8,000-square-foot Regency Ballroom. Both of these majestic spaces feature 20-foot molded ceilings with crystal chandeliers, padded walls printed with subtly colored designs, and intricately patterned carpeting in muted shades of blue, rose, green and gold. The Imperial Ballroom also has a Foyer that’s lovely enough for a wedding ceremony or prefunction cocktail party. It’s full of natural light, thanks to an enormous arched window overlooking Cesar Chavez Plaza. For ceremonies, a stage is set up beneath the fanciful wrought-iron-and-crystal chandelier that hangs from the Foyer’s vaulted ceiling, and guests are seated in a “theater in the round” configuration. A host of smaller rooms are available for more intimate gatherings, whether festive or business oriented. All are similar in décor to the Imperial and Regency Ballrooms, but with more modest twelve-foot ceilings. Many of them have large windows with views of the Plaza or the trees lining First Street, giving the rooms an open, airy feel.
One of the most delightful spaces at the Fairmont is the Club Regent. Formerly a dinner theater, its terracotta walls, Greco-Roman-style murals and curtained stage give this room plenty of personality, while its octagonal shape and split-level seating make it surprisingly intimate and versatile. It’s ideal for sit-down receptions of up to 240, since the room’s unique layout allows guests to be seated around a central head table, making everyone feel close to the “action.” But it’s also a favorite spot for bar and bat mitzvahs, since the kids can cut loose on the main floor, while adults observe the festivities from the relatively sedate upper level (the Club Regency would also be great for a graduation party, or any event where different generations might each like their own “space”).
As you would expect from an award-winning hotel, the Fairmont provides much more than just beautifully appointed ballrooms and meeting spaces. They’re one of the only hotels in the South Bay to offer kosher catering, and they specialize in Asian, Indian and Persian weddings. Perks for brides and grooms include a complimentary bridal suite and a spotlit, tulle-draped stage to showcase the wedding cake. The hotel’s layout keeps large and small events separate, and solid padded walls mean that your string quartet won’t be drowned out by the DJ next door. And the Fairmont’s fabulous lobby, with its marble columns, statuary, chandeliers and floral displays makes an opulent backdrop for your wedding photos.
With all the amenities we’ve listed above, plus a great central location in the heart of Silicon Valley, it’s easy to see why the Fairmont has been awarded such high accolades. Don’t be afraid to expect perfection at this first-rate establishment—you won’t be disappointed. After all, this is the Fairmont!
