Empire Polo Club

Why We Like This Place

At the far reaches of the 25 golden miles that make up Greater Palm Springs is Indio, the region’s Equestrian District and the home of the wonderful Empire Polo Club. Within this desert oasis bridal couples will discover three breathtaking event locations, each with its own sensational appeal.

Set on over three acres of landscaped grounds awash in fragrant blossoms, the Rose Garden and Pavilion evoke a genteel era where gentlemen wore hats, ladies carried parasols, and a fashionable garden wedding was de rigueur. Guests make a royal entrance down a cut-stone promenade, flanked by archways swathed in flowering vines and roses in the dreamy pastels of Monet’s palette. The promenade leads to a garden of truly epic proportions: over 7,000 rose bushes bursting with blooms. In one half of the garden paths wind between formal beds that encircle fantastical fountain sculptures of frolicking maidens. A low stone wall and green hedgerows partially enclose the rest of the garden, where the white Pavilion and three rose-decked gazebos grace an expanse of manicured lawn. Turn-of-the-century wrought-iron lampposts, bronze verdigris statues and cast iron benches impart an air of countrified elegance. In keeping with the nostalgic ambiance, a bride might arrive in the Club’s old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage, then wed her groom at the center gazebo, which is topped by a bronze angel.

During the social hour guests stroll through the Rose Garden like lords and ladies of yesteryear, enchanted by the delicate perfumed air. When it’s time for the reception everyone adjourns to the Pavilion, a demure summerhouse with French doors on three sides and a row of magnificent crystal chandeliers.

The Hacienda del Toro presents a very different fantasy world: a secluded party haven imbued with the spirit of Old California. A Western-style entryway made of rustic timbers opens to a spacious outdoor banquet area. On one side an enclosed waterfall and aviary aflutter with parakeets and lovebirds makes a delightful spot for a ceremony. Grand receptions hold court on a huge covered stage that overlooks the Hacienda from the far end. As evening falls, a dramatically lit palm garden opposite the aviary invites moonlight ambles.

At exotic Medjhool Lake a cobbled path winds beneath canopies of palm fronds, graceful saplings and lush ferns to a lakeside paradise. Filtered sunlight flickers on the water, and at sunset antique-style lamps and luminarias light the way. Bridal couples may arrive by gondola, and their lakeshore ceremony features a view of willow branches dangling over the shore like mossy filigree, and footbridges that arch over the water. Fanciful bronzed statuary includes a unicorn, a family of giraffes, and verdigris frogs lolling among the lily pads, vying with the real ducks for attention. Just beyond the lake a series of three spectacular Olympic tents are permanent fixtures adjoining one of the polo greens, providing enough party space to entertain everyone you know.

There are polo clubs, and then…there’s the Empire Polo Club; its alluring settings are sure to surprise and dazzle your guests.
