COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts

Description

Copia, The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts, sits like a white citadel on the banks of the Napa River, surrounded by acres of carefully designed and pampered gardens. Housed in an imposing ultramodern building, Copia nevertheless faithfully reflects the pastoral roots of Napa Valley, bringing together the best of the region’s wine, history, cuisine, music and graphic arts. Though it’s close to downtown Napa, the gardens and the river seem to create an island of serenity that shields Copia from the bustle of everyday life.

There are many locations for staging ceremonies and receptions indoors, outdoors or both. Large events are accommodated in the Beringer Vineyards Atrium, a grand, two-story space in the center of the building with a view of the Concert Terrace and the river. The architecture is sleek and modern, with towering glass walls and brushed chrome—a clean canvas that can be transformed into a romantic wonderland.

Several sites on the second floor provide indoor/outdoor environments and expansive views. The Mezzanine Gallery is an excellent vantage point for gazing at sunsets over the Napa River, and it gives guests access to galleries. The Garden Overlook, perched above the Olive Grove, has a panoramic vista of gardens stretching as far as the eye can see. Riverside ceremonies can be staged at the Oxbow Terrace (small groups) or the grassy Concert Terrace (larger groups).

Perhaps the most charming venues are the ones that take advantage of the magnificent groves and gardens surrounding Copia. Get married beneath a grape arbor in the North Garden or among the light-spangled trees in the Olive Grove. You can arrive via horse and carriage at the gorgeous Garden Promenade, and plight your troth on a stage built of local stone. (The Garden Promenade also has a covered area for your reception, with its own outdoor kitchen.) Everywhere you stroll between the rock-walled beds of vegetables, grapevines, fruit trees and flowers, there is the scent of good things growing and blooming in the rich Napa soil. In the evening, creative lighting turns the gardens into a set for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, where anything and everything magical might happen.

Catering at Copia is provided by Wine Valley Catering, specializing in Napa Valley cuisine. From hors d’oeuvre platters decorated with fresh flowers to Napa Valley Rack of Lamb, Wine Valley Catering combines seasonal local specialties and produce with—what else?—the fine wines of the region. Their wedding expert, Steve Sarna, will help you in every step of your event planning.

Copia offers you versatility, flexibility and great food. Whether your party is indoors, outdoors (or both), formal or informal, large or small, Copia does it all. As the staff says, "If you can dream it, we can do it!"
