Why We Like This Place
Set high on a mountain bluff overlooking forested hills, Chaminade Resort & Spa is a sublime Mediterranean-style retreat blessed with a stunning view of Monterey Bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains. A recent $11 million renovation has added a refreshing, contemporary flair to this historic estate, mingling the best of Old World elegance and modern luxury. The original Mission-style buildings, constructed in the 1930s, have been expanded into a gracious resort set in the midst of meticulously tended gardens and embraced by 300 acres of native oak, redwood and madrone.
Naturally, such romantic surroundings make Chaminade a prime spot for weddings. Have your ceremony on the Courtyard Terrace, an intimate setting reminiscent of a Spanish plaza thanks to planter walls brimming with flowers and the tranquil splashing of a tiered fountain. Couples recite their vows atop a slightly elevated stage, canopied by an arbor laced with climbing roses and seasonal wisteria. In the background, a sweeping vista of native woodland and the brilliant blue bay accents the photo-worthy moment. Another pretty possibility is the Sunset Patio, which guests enter through an archway of bougainvillea. Ornamental grasses, lavender and blooming perennials create a fragrant garden atmosphere, and as the bride and groom recite their vows they’re framed by a dramatic panorama of rolling hills and the Pacific on the horizon.
Large receptions are held in the Santa Cruz Ballroom. A high, soffited ceiling arches overhead, while windows on three sides overlook the wooded valley and the sea in the distance. The ballroom has a generous dance floor and access to its own balcony. Smaller celebrations gather in the Sunset Room, with arched floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the outside in; another choice is the Seascape Room, which adjoins the Fireside Patio and shares the same spectacular views of the forest and ocean.
Lavish and varied wedding packages offer a number of bride-pleasing amenities, such as complimentary valet parking for all your guests and custom wedding cakes by Chaminade’s resident pastry chef.
After the festivities wind down, you and your guests will discover that the accommodations here are as enticing as the scenery. Guestrooms have been stylishly updated with granite counters, Spanish-inspired dark wood furnishings and a bold color palette that reflects the rich beauty of the California coast. Newlyweds will also appreciate the lush views from their private patio, and dreamy featherbeds that invite late-morning lingering.
Another feel-good feature: Chaminade Resort is a certified “Green Business.” This commitment extends to their spa, which has a holistic approach to relaxation and rejuvenation, and only uses natural products. Throw a private spa party for your bachelorette gathering, or choose the “Time for Two Package” and indulge in some pampering for you and your groom; the spa also has special bridal options, including makeup consultation and application.
With an on-site pool, tennis courts and, of course, miles of beautiful hiking trails, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained. And let’s not forget dinner in the Sunset Restaurant, the resort’s award-winning fine dining establishment. Off property, you can stroll on a beach, go wine tasting, rock climb or board a yacht for a sunset cruise.

Fees & Deposits
For weddings, a $1,500–6,000 nonrefundable deposit is required (based on guest count); the estimated balance is due 5 working days prior to the event. For Saturday evening Ballroom events, there is a 160-guest minimum. Other spaces have guest minimums, call for details.
Wedding packages are available that include site rentals, setup, cleanup, all furniture and linens, professional event coordination, generous hors d’oeuvres, buffet or sit-down meal, deluxe wedding cake, discounted guestrooms and complimentary valet parking. Packages range $114–154/person; beverages, tax and service charges are additional. Special rates are available for overnight accommodations for the wedding couple, call for details.

Year-round, weekends. Saturday wedding reception luncheons 11am–4pm, dinners 5pm–midnight. Friday and Sunday events, please call for hours of availability.
