California Yacht Club

Description

Cleverly designed in an octagonal shape with glass walls that showcase a panoramic view of the harbor, the California Yacht Club makes a great place for a waterside wedding.

Lovers of the sea will naturally want to get married as close to the ocean as possible, and the Club has a stellar site: a triangular expanse of lawn that advances from the building and tapers to a rounded point in front of the water’s edge. Couples exchange vows here beneath an arch decorated with flowers, while their guests enjoy the sea air, glittering Pacific and the colorful parade of boats that pass by just beyond the point. After the ceremony, everyone strolls over to the adjacent patio for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

The Yacht Club itself is a handsome, two-story building that devotes its entire first floor to celebrations. Receptions take place in the spacious Fireside Room, named for its beautiful brick fireplace, which is set into a wall of windows. Before the dining begins, all eyes are on the bride, who makes a dramatic entrance as she gracefully descends a sweeping atrium staircase. The room’s decor is completely up to your imagination—anything from a Polynesian buffet with tiki torches, hula dancers and a fire show (held outdoors), to a formal Black & White Ball. For one corporate party, the Club was transformed into a 1970s Las Vegas Casino! Many couples, however, take a simpler approach, opting for elegant chair covers, floor-length linens, and candles and flowers placed on the fireplace’s carved wooden mantel. Twilight dinners are spellbinding, as the rays of the setting sun slant through the glass façade, bathing the space in a honeyed glow.

For very large events, the club’s white Marquis Tent can seat up to 350 beneath a 40-foot ceiling. This expansive space is a blank slate: hang swags of fabric, add colored gel lights, bring in a stage for a show or a ten-piece band. And no matter how you design the interior, a view of the water is always available through clear plastic sides.

The accommodating staff will customize your menu, theme or color scheme, so you’ll get the event that you want along with a lovely location. This is a place where water surrounds you, flocks of sea birds fly overhead, and ships slip quietly in and out of the harbor. Life is definitely good at the California Yacht Club.
