Why We Like This Place
The Berkeley City Club is a sensational landmark building, located just one block from the U.C. Berkeley campus. It’s a private social club, designed in 1927 by Julia Morgan in a Venetian-Mediterranean style with landscaped inner courtyards and fountains. The Club includes a 75-foot swimming pool, dining room and bar lounge, along with conference and reception rooms, all of which are available for celebrations.
The detailing and craftsmanship are impressive throughout. The Drawing Room and Member’s Lounge are large and gracious, with beamed ceilings, pianos, fireplaces, wall tapestries, tile floors, Oriental carpets and sizable leaded glass windows. The Ballroom is a theater-like space with a stage, parquet floor, concert grand piano and its own leaded glass windows. For an outdoor reception, the canopied Terrace is a wonderful spot on a warm day or evening.
One of the nicest things about having an event at the Berkeley City Club is that many of the rooms adjoin and can serve double duty for both ceremonies and receptions. Campus and downtown life bustles all around the City Club, yet it remains a quiet old-world oasis in the middle of town.
