Bella Victorian Vineyard

Description

In the heart of Pleasant Valley, cradled by the Conejo and Santa Monica Mountains, Camarillo was once a sleepy agricultural town; today, however, it has blossomed into one of the most desirable embodiments of the Southern California Lifestyle. With its spectacular weather, this upscale, yet laid-back, region is spawning boutique vineyards—and one of the first locals to nurture the fruit of the vine is Bella Victorian Vineyard.

Overlooking an expanse of farm fields, the Bella Victorian is perched against a hilly slope carpeted with supple grapevines, unfurling their tendrils in the warmth of the ever-present sun. The nostalgic home is a reproduction of “the Painted Lady,” a much-loved Queen Anne Victorian style. Its clapboard façade is a pleasing balance of historic colors edged in gingerbread trim. Generous use of stone and natural wood in the patios and railings, together with the pastoral setting, whisper of the Tuscan countryside, an appropriate milieu for a vineyard.

Wedding guests are escorted to the vineyard in an old-fashioned red and gold trolley. Turning down a country lane, they catch their first glimpse of the Bella Victorian, pretty and welcoming, silhouetted against a serene mountain vista. There are no other buildings in sight, just the fertile landscape and blue sky traced with a wisp of clouds.
A loose-gravel path leads to the event area, two ascending terraces ringed with grapevines. Friends and family watch the ceremony from the lower level, a manicured lawn facing a wide flagstone stairway. With the wedding party grouped along curving stone balustrades, the groom waits center-stage framed by a decorated iron archway. Behind him, a long wooden pergola and the rolling hills accentuate the beguiling vineyard ambiance; a bride can’t help but feel like a star as she glides down the aisle towards this enchanting stage.

For the cocktail hour, guests stroll to a patio on the other side of the home where wrought-iron bistro seating invites them to relax beneath the boughs of an ash tree, accompanied by the murmur of splashing water from a Mediterranean-style fountain. Oak barrels and an up-close view of the grapevines, stretched out in graceful symmetry along the hillside, are perfect complements to Bella Victorian’s wine-tasting and cigar bar.

As dusk draws near, guests return to the event area, where the upper grassy terrace has been transformed into a chic outdoor dining room beneath strings of delicate Tivoli lights. Standing sentinel is the pergola, luxuriously outfitted with a row of wrought-iron chandeliers and lavish stone accents. A fireplace and a working oven contribute cozy authenticity, and some couples have personalized pizzas cooked up fresh and flavorful for their guests’ enjoyment. The pergola is large enough to showcase the cake, the entertainment, and plenty of dancers. As a light mist swirls along the valley floor, a cavalcade of evening stars bedazzles the crowd, and sweethearts share a special wish for their future.

The environment may be rustic, but the Bella Victorian Vineyard is the picture of elegance, and celebrations at this secluded, family-run winery are sure to conjure up the promise of romance.
