Description
The Bancroft Hotel, located across the street from the University of California and next door to the Berkeley Art Museum, has become one of the premier hotels in the area since it was built in 1928. Originally the home of the College Women’s Club, it was designed by Walter T. Steilberg (an associate of Julia Morgan, the architect who designed San Simeon) and is currently a National Register landmark building. Julia Morgan-inspired furniture and period reproductions grace public spaces; furnishings in the Hotel’s guestrooms were reproduced from Walter Steilberg’s original drawings.
An absolute must-see is the Hotel’s one-of-a-kind 4,000-square-foot event space. It’s a large room with three sections, featuring floor-to-ceiling woodwork, Arts and Crafts period detailing, stained-glass windows, hardwood floors and two large fireplaces. The raised stage at one end is suitable for musicians and a dance floor, while the recessed middle section can be transformed into an intimate dining space. Use the other end for additional reception seating, or for a buffet and bar setup. The room is spacious and extremely flexible—you could arrange your party in a variety of ways and still have it work beautifully. (You could also consider their sister location, Adagia Restaurant, for your rehearsal dinner.) The Bancroft Hotel has been extensively restored, and is perfect for a warm comfortable reception. This is a small boutique hotel, ideal for housing out-of-town relatives and friends—a real find in the East Bay. If you are looking for a distinctive indoor wedding site that imparts a sense of history, the Bancroft Hotel is a wonderful choice.

Fees & Deposits
To secure your date, the entire rental fee is required as a deposit when you sign your contract. The rental fee runs $800–2,000 and varies depending on the season and day of week. The entire hotel is available for a buyout. Luncheons start at $18.95/person, dinners at $35.95/person. Tax, alcohol and service charge are additional.
