My name is Syrhonda Calhoun, and I am currently a Senior at San Francisco State University due to graduate May of 2010 with a degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism and a Minor in Hospitality Management focusing on Conference, and Event Management. I am currently looking for a position or internship as an Event Coordinator, or Catering Coordinator.
I am passionate about pursuing a career in event planning and have experience with Event Planning with private parties, and for fundraising events, and I have had extensive experience in customer service. I am an extremely hard worker, fast learner, reliable, responsible, and organized individual. With the knowledge that I have and my wiliness to learn, and the passion for this industry, I am sure I would be a great benefit to your company.

Dear Employer,
I am looking for a position in the wedding planning industry. I would be the perfect addition to your team given that I have sales, event planning and administrative experience. I am drawn to this line of work for a few reasons:
1) I can express my creative talents and use my artistic eye.
2) I am an excellent listener. As a sales representative and an event planner’s assistant, I learned the importance of hearing out the customer and understanding what his/her needs are and making sure my services help them achieve their goal. In my experience, an event is deemed successful when it brings to life a vision set by planner and client.
3) Three months ago I embarked upon a big task – I planned my own wedding! We had 600 guests total. Throwing such an event was an exciting challenge, especially with our high-maintenance families and cultures! I did my own
research, met the vendors, booked the caterer, designed my own invitation and got it made in India for half the cost; I even made my own place cards because I could not find any company that was willing to do what I envisioned without breaking my budget. But most of all, the need for me to be sensitive to my culture, my husband’s culture and all of the families’ desires was of utmost importance. I mastered the art of maintaining this sensitivity and moved forward with the project. Needless to say, it was a seamless, flawless, grand event that we all thoroughly enjoyed.
Being mechanical is not an option in this business. That is why I know I would be a great fit for any event/wedding planning position. I know my years of experience along with my natural ability have trained me to be great with clients and customers, paying attention to every detail.
I am a San Francisco resident and available for opportunities in the Bay Area.
