Why We Like This Place
With its architectural details, spacious halls and multiple grand pianos, this historic 1893 venue is far more than a famous library—it’s also great place to host a wedding or private celebration. The fully restored Lobby, which features an Art Nouveau chandelier, 20-foot ceiling and broad marble staircase (think bridal grand entry and fab photo op) lends itself beautifully to cocktail receptions, dinner parties or wedding ceremonies. Ruggles Hall hosts larger groups for sit-down or cocktail receptions, concerts, and other events. And if you’re planning a more intimate gathering, the oak-panelled Towner Fellows’ Lounge is an excellent choice. Although Newberry Library was founded to share 600 years’ worth of rare books, maps, music and much more, you don’t need to be a book or music lover to appreciate the building’s turn-of-the-century elegance. Complimentary parking in the on-site lot is available for after-hours events.
