As a young girl, Namrita Chettiar was raised amid the opulent fabrics and rich colors of her grandfather’s distinguished Indian atelier, so it seems only natural that she would end up a fashion designer. Her world travels and design training have given this young fashionista a fresh approach to traditional Indian couture. “My inspiration is the grandeur of royal India juxtaposed against the modern, well-travelled and eclectic woman of today,” says Namrita. Indeed, Vastra’s sumptuous and feminine designs reveal a strong fashion sense and an elegant global aesthetic sure to appeal to both South Asian and Western women of discernment.

Namrita’s wedding line includes custom-made Saris, Lehangas and Shararas updated with mermaid and trumpet silhouettes. This season, Vastra incorporates luxurious brocades and velvets, with netting accents for an ethereal effect. Zardozi and diamonte adornments add sparkle and elegance. “I work personally with the brides to create their dream ensembles and wedding trousseaus,” says Namrita.

Private showings and consultations are held at Vastra’s Santa Clara design studio.
