Why We Like This Place
The glorious Santa Ynez Valley is in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine Country. With over 70 wineries peppered amongst its rolling hills, the valley embodies a laid-back, epicurean lifestyle that’s especially appealing to stressed-out urbanites. Indeed, visitors quickly fall under the Valley’s spell, finding serenity and inspiration in its unspoiled beauty. Among the area’s most noteworthy temptations is the Santa Ynez Inn, which beckons from a speck of a township that also bears the valley’s name. Once a frontier boomtown with few luxuries but plenty of hospitality, Santa Ynez is still a friendly placeonly today, abundant comforts are readily offered up at the gorgeous Santa Ynez Inn.
Built in 2001, the Inn replicates Victorian architecture so authentically that it captures the bygone era as it must have actually seemed at the time—fresh and sparkling! Scrollwork balconies and interior opulence are reminiscent of a lavish San Francisco hotel of the Gold Rush period, patronized by wealthy aristocrats for whom only the best would do: Italian marble, artisan-crafted furnishings, and imported linens. More than just a triumph of design, the inn is also a superb venue for special celebrations.
Next to the inn, an expansive lawn is a lush invitation for garden weddings. Quaint touches like vine-covered arbors, an old-fashioned windmill, and a wheelbarrow planter overflowing with flowers create a pastoral milieu for saying "I do." Luxuriant shade trees include a giant willow, whose lacy boughs form a delicate cascade of greenery. The garden has space enough for an outdoor ceremony or reception, but it would be a shame to deny your guests the Inn’s sumptuous interior!
A pair of carved oak doors inset with etched glass leads into the Lobby, which makes a fabulous first impression. Everywhere the soft illumination of Tiffany-inspired fixtures and crystal chandeliers enhances the nostalgic ambiance. To the right of the Lobby a cozy Library adjoins a pretty garden patio with a splashing fountain—a delightful choice for an intimate gathering. Grand receptions unfold in either the historic Coach House, a rustic barn-style option; or in the Inn’s magnificent Parlour, arrayed with exquisite antique furnishings and more dazzling chandeliers. The décor is elegant, yet unfussy, welcoming your guests to dine at vintage tables and chairs fashioned of rich polished woods. A fireplace lends a country-manor atmosphere, and a wraparound bricked veranda supplies an outdoor party option. The inn’s chef customizes her gourmet menus and pairs them with the finest local vintages, making the cuisine as beguiling as the setting.
Those staying overnight feel privileged and pampered in any one of the inn’s 20 individually decorated guestrooms: amenities include fireplaces, marble baths with jacuzzis, and balconies or patios—and all come with a gourmet breakfast. While the newlyweds enjoy their spacious junior suite (replete with a plush canopy bed), and indulge in on-site spa services, friends and family can amuse themselves next door at the Victorian Gardens plaza, which houses a bistro and antique shop. The inn’s staff will gladly suggest other Wine Country adventures, though we have a feeling you’ll want to linger at this Santa Ynez gem as long as possible.
The Santa Inez Inn is a AAA 4-Diamond recipient and a member of the Select Registry of distinguished inns.
