Why We Like This Place

So you want to get away from it all, without actually going very far; you envision an intimate celebration in a beautiful, rustic setting, but still want the appropriate luxuries; and if you could extend the wedding magic for a few extra days, that would be icing on the (wedding) cake! Have we got a place for you: the Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse, a 150-acre private retreat among the gorgeous back roads of Santa Barbara Wine Country.

The leisurely half-hour drive from Santa Barbara through the scenic Santa Ynez Valley meanders past hillsides festooned with grapevines and a crystal-blue lake winking in the sunlight. When you reach the charming hamlet of Los Olivos, it’s just another fifteen minutes up a forested country road. Cresting the final ridge, you’re rewarded with a stunning panorama: mountains close enough to touch, embracing fields of grass and wild oats that glisten like silk. Above the peaks spreads an endless sky promising rainbow-hued sunsets. On this sheltered plateau stands the quaint and utterly endearing Farmhouse. Before you go in, take a moment to look and listen. There are absolutely no signs of civilization in sight, and about the only sound is the wind rustling through tree branches and the trill of birdsong.

This breathtaking natural environment is the perfect milieu for the historic Farmhouse. Though appearing to be one seamless wood frame structure, it’s actually a combination of a barn from New Hampshire and two Appalachian cabins that were built in the late 1700s. Piece by piece, the buildings were brought to Figueroa Mountain, and restored using authentic techniques and materials from olden days. Broad wooden decks have been added, the better to savor the great outdoors.

The immaculate interior is a window back in time: Lavished with artifacts and antiques, an old-fashioned charm pervades every adorable inch, from the original hand-hewn log-and-plaster walls of the Master Suite, to cozy Americana furnishings. Fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, antique chandeliers and view-filled picture windows make you want to move right in. Forget roughing it—everything is as fresh and clean as if just built, and the abundant modern conveniences are cleverly hidden to protect the nostalgic illusion. From Great Room to Loft to a pretty guest cottage nearby that overlooks paddocks of ostriches and grazing goats, there’s space for more than a dozen guests to spend the weekend and enjoy brunches, a rehearsal dinner, barbecues and fishing in a nearby pond.

Gatherings are usually held on the meadow, which can be mowed, but looks most fetching when left au naturel. Serve cocktails or a buffet from the decks, and encourage guests to stroll around and soak up the scenery. Warm nights, a brilliant starscape and the secluded atmosphere encourage revelry into the wee hours. You have the choice of simply renting the property and doing your own thing, or letting the manager assist you in arranging the details and hiring the best local vendors.

Whether sealing your vows with a kiss amid the mountain wilderness or dancing cheek to cheek under the shimmering evening stars, at Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse you’ll experience the joy of being so close to Nature and yet so pampered.

Fees & Deposits

20–50% of the total event cost is required to reserve your date. The balance is due several days prior to the event. Rental fees range $7,000–15,000 depending on the season of the event, your guest count and the needs of your event. The Farmhouse sleeps up to 14 guests.
