Questions and Answers

What 3 words describe your work? Creative. Storytelling. Honest.

What drew you to this field/how did you get started? I was living in San Diego, working at a private investment firm, and wishing I could live my dream of being a wedding photographer. I had a fantastic boss who let me use/play/learn on her camera gear outside of work while I saved up for my own, and some very kind and talented wedding photographers who let me intern for them as I built my confidence as a photographer. A few years ago, my husband's job moved us to the Central Coast and I had the opportunity to become a full-time wedding photographer. I haven't looked back since.

What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work? Real life couples. Not models you see in magazines, but couples you see in a coffee shop window laughing with each other on State Street in Santa Barbara. Couples that have grown old together and still joke with each other.

What makes a wedding memorable for you? Any wedding where I witness a couple shrugging their shoulders and laughing off the unforeseen is a memorable one for me. That's when I know and appreciate that they are the real deal and are truly happy to be married. It's an honor to be there to capture that.

What is your favorite quote? "The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn, like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle you see the blue centerlight pop and everybody goes 'Awww!'" —Jack Kerouac

If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead? I'd wish that I were a photographer :)

What's your favorite way to wind down after a hard day? Last Christmas, my parents gave me a fancy Brookstone foot massager. It's pretty much the best thing ever!
